Not a place I would recommend
Regional Sales Account Manager (Former Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAApril 25, 2018
Not a place i would recommend. Management is all about there own agenda and are not helpful. The salary is not great and the benefits are the worst i have ever seen for a company who claims it is so rich.

It was a big company with little room for growth.
Portfolio Management Administrator (Former Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAJanuary 31, 2018
The experience working at Balboa would vary depending on the position you have. If you're in the Sales department and are doing well, then there is more of an opportunity to move up. But if you were in any other department it may not be so easy to earn a career advancement.

Account Executive (Former Employee) –  Irvine, CAJanuary 7, 2018
This was a good opportunity for an introduction into the white collar sales world. The ownership is very supportive and accessible and the overall environment is what you would expect from a sales floor,

Fun, competitive place to work. Career potential is strong
Finance Manager (Former Employee) –  Irvine, CAOctober 26, 2017
Balboa Capital is a great place to work. Middle management is a bit of a cool kids club, but the owner and president are both pretty level dudes who are approachable by all. Great way to learn B2B finance in a relaxed environment.

Inside Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Irvine, CASeptember 29, 2017
I Sold Leasing services to small and medium sized organizations. A typical day involved cold calling over 150 accounts and generating leads. I learned how to sell over the phone and also that I really wanted to be in outside sales. This was a stepping stone to get the to next stage of my career with the end goal of being in the Medical Industry.

Great people and nice environment. Management is very supportive and they sincerely want you to succeed. The facility in Costa Mesa is new and the technology is top notch.
Pros
Autonomy is great. The employees are really happy, unlike some other companies that I interviewed at where the sales people looked stressed.
Cons
Competition is tough

Come into work, do your work and keep your head down. Sometimes people are nice if the managers hit numbers. Be careful if you take time off for a doctor or dentist appointment. Be careful calling in sick

Account Executive (Current Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAJuly 9, 2017
The account executive position is very repetitive work. You just make calls all days from your desk. Your sole purpose is to generate business through the calls.

Poor Management Gets Protected
Account Manager (Former Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAJune 30, 2017
when you start you are required 150-200 calls per day. After three months if you are not bringing in applications forget about it. Begin counting your days. Only the managers get protected and often protected or welcomed back after leaving the company. Anyone else just gets replaced.
Pros
new headquarters
Cons
poor management that does not care about the employee

Employee (Current Employee) –  Irvine, CAMay 11, 2017
This is a good place as a first job but there is limited room for growth and they are very stingy with compensation. They require you to do multiple people's job without paying more. It is very difficult to move up in the company.

Challenging and rewarding and great-looking office
Sales (Current Employee) –  Costa Mesa, CAApril 4, 2017
Great work environment. Filled with fun, energetic, and driven individuals! Good place to start if you are looking for a job in the field of finance. The new offices in Costa Mesa are really nice and modern. Food trucks, restaurants and the big South Coast Plaza mall are a short walk away.
Pros
Great management, competitive pay, Peets coffee in the kitchen
Cons
Growing fast, so there is minimal time for training. You sometimes need to "go it alone"

Very long hours
Poor Pay
Easily Replaceable
150+ Phone Calls per day (boring)
No room for growth
Immoral Company: You give your clients a "good" rate and are led to believe that you're helping them when in reality you're scamming them. I once offered a company a 5% rate and it turned out to be 10%
Terrible training, I felt like I was flying blind for most of my time there

Difficult environment, good for an entry level sales rep
Regional Sales Manager (Former Employee) –  Irvine, CAMarch 4, 2016
If you enjoy making phone calls continuously then this is the environment for you.
This is a low hanging fruit sales position, the more calls you make the better you chances.
Communication between departments can be difficult.
You will find yourself lost and feeling unable to support you customers. You are constantly at the mercy of others, for you have to wait for three other people to complete a task before you can do anything.
Pros
Nice location
Cons
Difficult business model.

Balboa Capital is a nice way to start your career and gain some work experience. Lower tier pay, starting at 30k with minimal commisions.
