Work & Life Balance

busy and not a lot of freedom
The veterinary field is rewarding, but not a lot of pay for the amount of work you do. Long 12 hour days are a regular with working holidays as well. The upper management in the corporate offices are not very helpful. You do not get a lot of free time, so the work/life balance is horrible. There is not a lot of opportunities to advance.

Benefits are good and job security is good but as everyone who's ever worked in a veterinary support position knows, wages suck pretty much everywhere. I make $1.20 more then I did when I was hired 3 years ago. Cost of living has surpassed the meager increases so I'm basically on a worse financial situation then I was when I got hired.

Management wasn’t good, had a hard time getting shifts covered if you were sick. But we’re expected to cover everyone else’s shifts. Worked 7-7 multiply days a week.
Veterinary Assistant in Denver, CO

Banfield pushes the veterinarians to see about 23 pets a day. The environment is rushed, stressed, and we are climbing on top of each other in the tiny space. I can not image the work environment would pass fire and osha regulations. Getting out of work on time is a rare occurrence. The culture is not supportive and open.
Veterinary Assistant in Johns Creek, GA

Pets per day is the only valued metric. Doctors are forced to see past max daily patient volume, compromising quality of patient care and leading to stressful working conditions. Employees are worked through their lunches and regularly leave 1-2 later than scheduled. Attempts to rectify these issues have been ignored by company leadership repeatedly. All duties/responsibilities belonging to the practice manager are delegated to other staff members, while said staff members are expected to maintain their regular duties.
