Very Profesional
Security Agent (Former Employee) –  San Rafael, CAJune 15, 2018
I was very happy with the level of professionalism and support that the management provided. The owner himself often took shifts and was always available for any questions about any situation that could arise. the culture was very professional, the majority of staff was either ex military or students heading for a career in law enforcement. the work it self was stressful, but the knowledge that the management was behind me made it very easy to handle.

Lots of Hours but the pay doesn't match those hours
Private Security Officer (Current Employee) –  Novato, CAApril 20, 2018
This is a good job if you want benefits. But the pays isn't the greatest. You do get a lot of hours but it's disappointing when you get your pay and its such a small amount for such hard work. And there isn't much room for advancement. If you are joining in hopes of ending up high on the chain of command, Don't. You will work here for decades and still probably not get promoted. The only promotion is to be a patrol unit. Which is a lot more dangerous then just a standing security agent.

Hard Work with Good People
Business Development Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Novato, CAJune 20, 2018
Working at BSG was a real pleasure. Nothing beats working for a company that believes in making their community a better place. Far too often, people in the Security Industry either don't care, or take their jobs too seriously. At BSG, the mission was first and foremost customer service.

Further, for people looking to get into Law Enforcement, BSG offers the opportunity to really hone the "soft skills" of dealing with difficult individuals. The Law Enforcement Academy that one might attend will teach one how to be Law Enforcement. BSG teaches their employees how to treat people with respect and courtesy.

This is a growing company, and that means that there is plenty of work to be had. This can be a double-edged blade because your personal life can take a hit by working so much. However, when push comes to shove and the schedule demands every hand on deck, you'll be working beside senior management. This includes the owner. Getting face time with him or any of the other members of management is an invaluable resource for mentorship.

A good place to work
Security Agent (Former Employee) –  Riverside, CAMarch 19, 2018
Especially if you're transitioning to law enforcement. As far as i could tell, they were the most professional security agency in the area. The owners and CEO are hands on. They try to put the right people in the right places.
Pros
good leadership

Small Business Quickly Growing but with No advancement opportunities
Security (Former Employee) –  San Rafael, CAApril 25, 2018
Barbier Security Group, I believe, is in a transition period from being a small family owned business into a much Larger more successful Company. Unfortunately this also means the Employers have switched focus from fewer but more experienced group of Guards with incising pay TO 100's of guards, Low pay, higher turnover, and less communication throughout.

BSG does offer in house training/certification at no expense to the new guard but can also take a long time to get around to offering it. The training staff has alot of experience, and the facilities used are nice enough for the San Rafael SWAT to train.

Management as stated is becoming rather scattered, and occasionally unresponsive about guards suggestions, complaints, and concerns. Unfortunately, it does not seem like BSG is concerned with assisting the guards they send to sites with safety concerns, to the point of creating unsafe work environments in order to appease client peeves. Getting ahold of and getting answers out of management has been hit and miss unless it concerns BSG financial outputs.

Lots of summer hours and OT in summer, but with the winter season brings a HUGE drop of monthly income, As guards are left to work their usual 4-6 days week but with less hours worked per day and almost no OT. Again, where the employer is concerned with things other than its workers happiness.

If your looking for a quick Summer buck, this is the place to go, as BSG will give you as much as you can take, but when Winter rolls in expect the hours to tank, the days worked to remain the same, and any callouts,
more... or need for adjustments to be taken kindly, as the mentality of the BSG office is that employees (new and old) will take as much financial loss needed to sustain upper managements expectations for profits.

Summary:

BSG WAS a 5 star company with roots in the community who cared about the guards that Partner with BSG.

BSG IS becoming typical High turnover, typical wages, expensive benefits that appeal more to management with zero interest in guards outside of whether their body is on the site its supposed to be on.
