General Manager - Barneys Department Store (Current Employee) – New York State – April 9, 2018
Challenging work environment. Bonus is non existent- no matter how well your store performs, if the entire company does not meet their targeted goals not a single Bonus is awarded. There is a lack of incentives for all Warehouse stores, and a major disconnect from Corporate to Warehouse. There is no focus or investment in warehouse stores, stores are expected perform but given minimal tools for success. Major lack of training and focus on warehouse employee development.Technology is consistently failing, response times to store issues is slow and inefficient, stores are out dated and unappealing. The work life balance is poor for management. For Executive Management there is NO growth opportunity. If you are looking for career advancement this is not the right fit for you. If you are content to stay within your role you will thrive. Great Vacation package, however next to impossible to use due to poor work-life balance for management. There is no performance incentives- no commission for associate teams, just a minimal quarterly bonus. No achievable performance incentives for any level of management in Warehouse stores.
Good discount, good vacation package
poor work life balance, poor management, corporate is dosconnected to the field employees
Constantly short-staffed, Barneys is a hectic / stressful place to work.
Business Analyst - Financial Systems (Former Employee) – Lyndhurst, NJ – April 5, 2018
Simply put, the company is too under-staffed to function in an effective, proactive manner. Every day feels as if you are treading water to keep from drowning. Management is aware of the situation, but they say that the difficult retail environment necessitates this kind of structure. But I also spent time there when the financials were not awful, and the same environment existed.
Sales Accessory Associate (Former Employee) – New York, NY – April 5, 2018
From the first day until the last, I met great customers that I continue to have a relationship with. The management was fair and always helpful in supporting my growing sales. I would tell anyone to start their sales career here.
Web Stylist (Former Employee) – Long Island, NY – March 29, 2018
Great place to work. Can get repetitive after a while, unless you don't mind repetition. Traveled for the company to Europe many times and enjoyed my stay away from New York City. Would have stayed if I wasn't offered so much else outside of this work environment. Management wasn't always the best but I've worked at worse places.
Sales Support (Former Employee) – New York, NY – February 22, 2018
Very enjoyable job, management was professional and nice. a typical day at work will consist of assisting the clientele and maintaining a clean sales floor. the workplace culture was great and diverse. Employees are very pleasant, and conversational.
Web Service Representative (Current Employee) – Lyndhurst, NJ – February 17, 2018
great schedule, great company culture. great pay. great coaching. great Team to Work for. great working environment. most enjoyable part of job is speaking to different people from all over the country and world.
By and large my employment with Barneys New York was an exceptional experience-- beautiful store, impeccable merchandise, very good clientele. Management was amateur at best and had limited interest in understanding the customer base.
Beautiful working atmosphere, terrific merchandise, good clientele, reasonable hours, decent compensation
Men's Designer Specialist / Personal Shopper (Former Employee) – Chicago, IL – January 23, 2018
- Poor management that are not there for their staff. Instead are constantly trying to catch the employees for "wrong doing". - Very low compensation for the amount of stress, life sacrifice, working major holidays. - High turnover on sales staff, hard to keep up if you don't have a stable client book. - Management creates a hostile work environment by not dealing with issues and pinning staff against each other. - Hard to claim your PTO as management wants you to work constantly.
You get to meet nice people and build a client relationship with them.
Sales Associate (Former Employee) – New York, NY – January 11, 2018
Out of all the retail environments I've worked this is by far my favorite. Very organized, certain class of shoppers, and it was easy to clientele in a relaxed atmosphere. However in my case this was a temp position.
