Not the #1 Chemical Company
Reliability Core Team Lead, Acrylic Acid Plants (Former Employee) –  Freeport, TXMarch 18, 2019
BASF Chemical is too competitive. This translates to its employees.
BASF has undergone a significant organizational change with the new CEO which included getting rid of the maintenance department and integrating it with Operations.

Worst leadership ever
Current employee (Current Employee) –  801 Dayton Ames, IowaMarch 12, 2019
Management takes no responsibility for anything that goes wrong (which is weekly) and finds a scapegoat to throw under the bus. They provide no training other than poorly written SOP's and quizzes and then hold you accountable because they have you checked off as fully trained on your equipment. The environment breeds fear and distrust. New management within the last couple of years is ruining what used to be a good place to work.
Pros
Work schedule and benefits
Cons
Unsafe working conditions and posers for leaders

Internationa company and different sites across USA. People are nice and friendly. Less opportunity for individuals to grow and promote. Comprehension is not very competitive.

Manager, Lab Support (Current Employee) –  New Providence, NjMarch 11, 2019
Working for the Chemetall division of BASF, so comments are not directly related to BASF. Company location is small which provides opportunity to learn many aspects of the business.

Project & TAR Materials Manager (Former Employee) –  Port Arthur, TXMarch 11, 2019
My time as a contractor at BASF proved very frustrating, the initial hiring was arduous and subsequent management was distrustful and lacked maturity in process control. an over abundance of confidence in inept company personnel lead to failure which was then blamed on the cadre of contractors attempting to work within a corrupt system which was pushed by certain individuals solely to drive work to cronies.

Great place to work!
Process Technician (Current Employee) –  Chattanooga, TNMarch 9, 2019
The company truly values safety. They don't spend money on a lot of things but safety is one thing that is always a priority. Working outside is tough but the jobs are realistic and there is a teamwork attitude. Training could be improved but you can always ask for help if needed.
Pros
safety culture, teamwork
Cons
overtime, shift work

Customer service
Customer Care Representative (Former Employee) –  Roseville, MNMarch 8, 2019
Best part of the job was working with contractors and distribution accounts.
A typical day at work would be handling multiple phone calls, faxes and e-mails of customers placing orders, and walk in orders.
The culture was mainly most white Americans at my location.

Terrible working environment
Final QC (Former Employee) –  Huntsville, ALMarch 4, 2019
Left after many years. Horrific working conditions..115 or more in summer & cold enough to see your breath in winter. Laziest people Ive ever worked with, and so called "management" are utterly incompetent buffoons.
Pay & benefits for full time people are good...they will work you to death on O/T. Had to leave for many reasons, health related & otherwise. NOT for older people...the young ones cant handle it most of the time. Unreal turnover-dont even know names, they come & go.
Pros

Cons
TERRIBLE work environment, poor/lazy workforce..inept/lazy leadership

Specialist of Planning & Controlling (Current Employee) –  Florham Park, NJMarch 3, 2019
BASF Corporation has developed nicely in the USA. Benefits compare to most companies. Employees enjoy working there for the most part. I worked there a long time and management always tried to help with work/home balance and travel. They provide resources to improve on skills. Open door policy with upper management. Encourage diversity.

Tuition reimbursement

Working at BASF for Capitol Ultrasonic
Unit Inspector (Former Employee) –  Geismar, LAMarch 1, 2019
I really enjoyed working at BASF, I was inspecting the piping systems and also making isometric drawings of the piping circuits, I had not done anything unsafe, as a matter of fact even was awarded two small safety awards. Then the new safety man said that I was not filling out my JSA properly, then they let me go for that reason.
Pros
Good job

Great pay but lack in management
Anonymous (Current Employee) –  Greenville, OHMarch 1, 2019
since this is anonymous, here is the truth. The site contract supervisor doesn't know her head from a hold in the ground. She changes things so often, you are not sure what to do next. One thing I can say about BASF is that they are safety oriented 100%. U mess up, you're gone. period.
