BEPC Not Bad but Could be Better
MECHANICAL ENGINEER II (Current Employee) –  Wheatland, WYFebruary 9, 2018
At Laramie River Station the culture is strange. It is as if there is not direction from supervision or management. It is very discombobulated due to the lack of direction. Management is afraid to make decisions, difficult to advance if you don't "put in your time." The actual work is good, and can be extremely challenging. Work culture is very lax. One could get away with not doing much, which is not interesting or challenging to me. Engineers are treated poorly at the plants. Highest paid position are the planners, whom ask engineers how to do things. Hard to get promoted or advance if you work at one of the plants. The company caters to their headquarters personnel. The pay and benefits aren't bad but it could be much better, after realizing the amount of responsibility for each position.

The work was challenging and exciting however the lack of career advancement was a problem. The level of work expected from an individual did not match the title one was given.

Sr. Application Architect (Current Employee) –  Bismarck, NDAugust 16, 2017
Skills are highly valued as is your need to have a quality personal life outside of work. Management will work with you to help you achieve your goals.

The workplace culture is fairly laid back. It's understood that some projects take longer than others. No undue pressure to finish something before it's done.
Pros
Community-focused
Cons
Pop/Soda is not free.

Wish I could buy Basin for what its worth and sell it for what it thinks its worth.
Journeyman Lineman (Former Employee) –  Transmission System MaintenanceJuly 7, 2017
Highly Overrated company. Terrible medical insurance (they are self insured but managed by Blue Cross of Nodak) If you are an inside employee or a power plant hand you will probably like it as your employment choices are limited anyway. If you are a true Journeyman Lineman or Journeyman Wireman you will HATE Basin. Especially in North Dakota.

This is a great company to work for. They have excellent pay and benefits for the area. The plant is located close to town. The schedule for maintenance is excellent and they are flexible on start times for shift.

Administrative (Current Employee) –  HDQJuly 20, 2014
If you can tolerate office politics x100 and favoritism, then this is the place you want to be. Can't express much good about it other then it's a paycheck.
Cons
If you aren't a "name" in the company, you are overlooked and treated poorly.

I takes a very special type off person to deal with many dozens on calls daily And how to deal with many personalities.
Call Center Representative (Current Employee) –  Bismarck, NDJuly 12, 2013
A typical day at work involves answering phones from consumers who are without power or are disconnected. You hear a million reasons why people don't pay their bills. Management and co-workers are very good. The most difficult part of the job is when inclement weather occurs knocking out power. Phones ring constantly. Sometimes for hours. I an 8-hour shift I have fielded as many as 200-calls. The most satisfying part of the job comes when you know you have helped someone. At times when consumers think they are going through a power outage, you walk them thru a series of steps and eventually power is restored without having to call out a line crew.
Pros
Timely pay raises.
Cons
When busy, not enough time to eat.
