A little over a year ago we had a top exec join the company. I am a patient person, and stay clear of politics, but this guys has been upsetting people off left right and center. He has a big problem with career oriented white non Mormon males, and when challenged in any way will retaliate, but on a psychological level. He is very manipulative, and would tell people their job may be in jeopardy, only to come back and “rescue” them from their fate. When any employee challenged him regarding an approach (one of his direct reports), he blew up and did not talk (not even greet) for more than a month.

In the past year I have never heard any positive feedback from him. Status updates are always an opportunity for him to criticize and tell people how their approach is not well thought through, but never a well done, or any praise where it is due. He would tell his people what to wear, pushing more formal attire, and makes a habit of bad mouthing others during our 1 to 1 sessions to upper management and his personally elected team leaders. I have seen how he would do this to pit people against each other, while he looks like the “hero” for helping them see the light.

Overall that culture is going down the drain, and he negatively affected morale on all levels to the extent I and many others had no choice but to quit without notice. When other fellow employees would come complain to me, you know it is not good. I have read about how bad hires can affect company culture / overall morale, but now that it happened here, and even to me I am amazed that one guy can have such an impact. And it’s not like it is a knee jerk reaction. It’s been more than a year, people have been trying to keep their jobs.

Is this just a character flaw, or does this line up with Mormon/business doctrine / behavior of their leaders. I don’t know much about the church, and only know he is some sort of horse apple.

Any help on how best to handle such an individual? Maybe this is just a bad dude in general and has nothing better to do than be a simpleton!so now I am jobless seeking work for a field that fits and best suits my skills any help is appreciated

They have limited locations that will want felons, and next to none if it is a violent crime against another person, but they do hire you as a temp.
