BD is one of the best!

Featured review

BD selected this as a representative review
The location was Columbus Nebraska, MDS division. It’s a high volume and efficiency manufacturer of single use medical products. Great people to work with. Proprietary manufacturing technology.

Lack luster management

Management never seems to understand what’s going on within the various sections of the building. They do not have a good track record on inner department communication.

Lay offs for everyone!

Our team had the joys of being efficient and with ever increasing sales success. Too bad BD wants to prepare for the worst and slash employees when and where they shouldn’t. Don’t think colleagues aren’t going to jump ship after witnessing.

Great office environment

BD offers a pretty supportive office environment. Of course it depends on your specific co-workers but I would work for them again in a heartbeat best. I had a great boss and co workers.

The actual physical job isn’t that terribly hard but the stress of people is worth hazard pay.

What is the best part of working at the company? The pay and insurance. Every once in a while you’ll get someone in charge that cares. But that’s short lived. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? If you’re a hard worker and care about stuff, you get more work. To top it off people who mess around or are lazy get away with it, and get paid the same. Oh, ya also the favorites. There are a ton and they get away with everything. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It’s cut throat, clicky, and number driven. Too many times they put up with “good enough” instead of fixing things right. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Working hard, a lot of times you are trying to run a machine that has issues the techs won’t fix. Cause of that “Good enough” mentality. Most of the leads or coach’s will act like your friend then throw you under the bus when things go wrong. If an improvement is implemented and doesn’t work it will take years to fix since they won’t admit something is a mistake.

Lots of potential

It really could have been a great place to work. The benefits and pay were good; the management was not. Production wasn't able to catch up to a multiyear backorder. People got tired of the incompetence from management and decided to leave. I have no faith the backorder will be cleared. You end working 60-hour weeks while being thrown under the buss.

Smooth processes, great culture

Well established company, smooth onboarding process, great benefits, excellent work/life balance, approachable management team. Inclusive culture. Lots of opportunity to mingle with colleagues. Generous annual bonuses and PTO.

R&D Lab Technician

BD is a really safe and pleasant place to work. Everyone, no matter what the separation in the organization, is accessible and fairly personable. I as a low level technician was able to talk to an R&D director and there was none of the typical tension talking with senior directors. You work in cross-functional teams that meet online through Teams. Depending on what you do within the organization, most of your time in a typical day could be spent collaborating with your team. Some of the downsides of working here include the excessive red tape and delays that the document control process imposes. As a technician, I was waiting for weeks sometimes to get test documents. Furthermore, BD has some annoying hiring practices. Positions are earmarked for certain people. If you want to advance, especially in the lower echelon, then you are stuck waiting for something to open up under a manager that you're in good with. People will give encouragement and "support," but it fails to the fallacy that talk is cheap in my honest opinion.

Pros

Social events, Good work culture

Cons

Bad hiring practices, Slow document crontrol process

This is the most unappreciative company I have ever seen

What is the best part of working at the company? No opportunity to grow in the company they would do everything to hold you back and keep you in the same position for years in the high volume department. Who know who those are the people who move up.What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Same everything is stressful and management never has your back they blame you for everythingWhat is the work environment and culture like at the company?Stressful people are always mad and unfriendlyWhat is a typical day like for you at the company?Everytime I am about to start A day I am thinking how to fond another job to leave bd

Out of all the jobs I’ve ever had in my entire life my experience there was the worst

What is the best part of working at the company?I can’t honestly think of any, I worked there for three years and the pay was good. The benefits were good, management was a nightmare. Corporate management was a nightmare. They did not care about the employees at all, whether it was through sickness, requiring employees to come in, regardless, if it was a blizzard or extreme weather conditions, or you would be fired. They did not care that they would not put money into the machines for repairs. All they cared about was their bottom dollar and production if you didn’t make production because your machine was down because of no repair parts, that was your fault not theirs. They had a very high turnover rate, and most of the time I saw them advance, people that were not qualified and friends of other supervisors and managers. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Dealing with Management, And there hurry up and wait environment, you never know What they have in store for you each day or night that you work? What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Very fast paced. The people are good to work with outside of some individuals that you will run into regardless of the company you work for. Management is very cutthroat, as is the company. What is a typical day like for you at the company? You get to work have a brief meeting start your shift deal with everything that happens during your shift which could be employee issues lack of employees, machinery, breakdowns, lack of machinery, repair, parts, or personnel to repair them management, -

Stressful

Management has unrealistic expectations for timeliness and budget on capital projects. Professional training or job advancement are non existent. The team I work with has lots of experience.

There is no development plan

Very bad management, they won't hesitate to throw you under the bus due to their poor management". No chance of raises or promotion. Was once the coolest place to work but sadly has Changed with the new management.

Great pay Competitive environment

Great pay and stock options but encouraged too much competition between associates to the degree that they created emergencies only to showcase their own abilities to react to emergency situations.

Working at BD was a frustrating and unhappy experience compared to other companies.

What is the best part of working at the company?Stock options are available to certain job levels. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? There were multiple changes of management and movements of employees from one department to another without prior discussion with the employee. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It was not a happy environment overall and there was a very top-down approach to management. Often, management was not listening to what employees were trying to convey regarding operational problems. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Multiple meetings were held daily and then the rest of the day was self-determined in how to work on assigned projects.

Great place if you enjoy making lots of money

Working 12 hours shifts in production can be a grind but the atmosphere and people there are very multicultural and will treat you well. Obviously you will spend more time there with them than with your actual family but if you are single or unattached, You can make gobs of money and work overtime for pretty good pay.It is contract work through a third party for usually 6 months to a year before being brought in as a BD employee.

Pros

Solid pay and overtime

Cons

12 hour days. Work/life issues.

Lulled into false sense of security

The travel and per diem are the perks of the job. There is a learning opportunity and little pressure for several months. At some point you are literally thrown into situations where you are expected to perform and achieve beyond your training. Management will scrutinize your hours worked and performance. Your team mates when available are excellent resources. You are expected to avoid overtime and if your travel eats up too much money then they will adjust your schedule and you are expected to turn in your expenses within14 days. Many rules are not explained until they are violated. This is from a contractor and not an employee.

Pros

Per diem and travel with some time to enjoy the location and sites.

Cons

constant training that has little to do with your daily functions, as in C2C courses.

Decent place to work, supply chain needs a ton of work.

The workplace is pretty decent, offering a solid work-life balance and fair pay. However, the company's supply chain is definitely not its strong suit. If you're aiming to learn from a top-notch supply chain, you would be wise to explore other options.

It’s a job

It’s a job where I do job like things and I clock in and then I clock out. I work 40 hours a week. Monday through Friday is my schedule and I have weekends off.

Great life science company

BD was a great life science and health care company until they focused mostly on health care market. Now they are an even greater HC company and dominate the market.
