Even after the state took over, the local ISD has struggled to maintain a high level of academic performance with their at-risk student populations. They have brought in several charter school companies to run the lowest performing schools, and that's going poorly as well. They have increased pay significantly from when I lasted worked there, but the school board and upper administration can not seem to create a plan to meet the needs of students.

The care taken by staff members. Job performance, keen sense time management. The job overall is a wonderful place to work and there is a great leadership program that requires transparency and accountability. Another aspect of the job that stands out is the way teachers interact with students with no partiality. Great concern is shown for the students success and well being. Keep up the good work!!

Even though I worked there, I also saw the academic aspect of the district. My daughter graduated as a salutatorian and was able to attend one of the best universities in this state. The district offered many extracurricular opportunities for its students and staff. After Hurricane Rita, administration was helpful and flexible for those who had post-hurricane challenges. There was a sense of unity and community.

Education and professionalism is a show and not a duty. Campus choice is very important. Your campus leader may be prone tointerrupt prior to the teaching day. Forget scheduling... arrange irrelevantmeetings at random before, during and at the end of the teaching day- on any day of the week. There may be no real time to prepare for teaching unless you prepare at home. I love teaching, but campus leadership can make for an horrible experience.

Great to be able to teach children and make a difference. On the other hand, the administration is very bureaucratic. I spend a very large amount of time attending self congratulatory meetings required by the administration after school as well as filling out pointless paperwork and doing administrative tasks with very little time left to concentrate on planning engaging lessons.
