Understaffed
Front Desk Receptionist (Former Employee) - Placerville, CA - August 4, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedPay was not worth it for the type of work. Understaffed and can’t hold on to employees. A lot to learn and really good hands on but felt thrown in and unprepared in many situations.

overworked employees
Medical Assistant (Current Employee) - bay area - July 17, 2023
the EMR system used is horrible, the shift scheduling is inconsistent everyone should just start at 8 or 8:30 , the MA’s are over worked and expected to do the providers job, all the providers do is examine the patients the MA’s have to room pt, SCRIBE/ write the doctors visit note & send the rx’s, run in an out of the rooms to charge patients for the cosmetic stuff, work the front desk, and much more. most of the providers are lazy to correct any errors and expect you to do your job and theirs and get upset if things aren’t how THEY want. how about DO YOUR JOB and correct it we shouldn’t have to scribe / write the visit note on top of our JOB duties. i never heard of that before. it’s just a chaotic mess and unprofessional. big mistakes are made/ going to happen when your employees are over worked with a huge workload and responsibilities that don’t fall under the ma title . we are not fairly compensated for doing 2 jobs and running around like chickens with our heads cut off. there’s alot of turn over for this exact reason. WE NEED BETTER PAY AND THE PROVIDERS NEED TO DO THEIR JOBS , WRITE YOIR OWN NOTE AT THE VERY LEAST. pts are paying to see YOU not us.
Cons
working 2 jobs for the pay of one

Medical Assistant (Former Employee) - Fremont, CA - May 25, 2023
Overworked, understaffed, under appreciated. Need to do job of 4 employees: your own job of rooming patients, front desk job of answering phones and checking out patients, provider’s job of finishing the note and sending prescriptions, as well as admin work. Oh and there’s no designated time to do any of it, only while in between rooming patients, which each appt for patients is 10 min. Imagine having to do all of that while seeing 30-40 patients per provider.

Don't work here. You'll thank me later.
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) - Roseville, CA - May 17, 2023
Was a medical assistant here for a short term due to intolerance of the toxic work culture from the staff and management. You will be punished dearly for things you weren't even trained to do, and will be sucked into drama with coworkers.

Busy but productive
Physician Assistant (Current Employee) - San Francisco, CA - April 26, 2023
Few opportunities for training. Need to be proactive to grow. Management is well-meaning but needs improvement of training and onboarding. Large patient base with mostly medical and cosmetics. Good for someone who likes to be busy.

Very toxic work environment.
Patient Services Representative (Former Employee) - Los Altos, CA - January 11, 2023
This job promises growth but never allows for that. There are no raises. No growth opportunity. Very toxic work environment. They work you to the bone with no acknowledgment of your good work. A traumatizing experience to be honest. This place only cares about money.
Pros
Nothing.
Cons
Everything.

Management needs work
Provider (Current Employee) - San Francisco, CA - November 12, 2022
Few opportunities for training and advancement. New providers not well-supported due to briefness of training time. Management is well-meaning but needs improvement of training and onboarding. Unless you have a patient base or experience, you may consider accepting an offer at a place that has better training available. High turnover company.

Fun Specialty
Patient Service Representative (Former Employee) - Placerville, CA - November 12, 2022
Great company to get your feet wet in the Dermatology specialty. Tend to be understaffed and overworked. Pay is a bit low. Aside from drama that starts from the top and trickles down, not a bad place to be.

High Turnover Company
Provider (Current Employee) - California - October 3, 2022
High turnover company. Inefficient workflows, inventory not ordered on time. Management needs an overhaul. I strongly encourage you to talk with providers that have worked here before joining.
Pros
Other clinicians are nice to work with
Cons

Jobs at Berman Skin Institute
Overworked, underpaid
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) - Fremont, CA - August 3, 2022
Owners/management of the company show 0 appreciation for their workers. They will play games and turn employees against each other. Would rather let good employees leave because of horrible pay and pay the next person even less. Chronically short staffed due to high turnover. No structured training provided, sink-or swim. Get yelled at by the doctor in front of patients. Patients always complain about how the doctor spends 1-2 minutes per appointment before leaving the room and not coming back, so us assistants are left to deal with upset patients by ourselves. Some employees go years without getting a raise. In this economy, there are many other jobs that offer significantly better pay with less hostile work environments. Beware.
Pros
Great coworkers/employees, discounts
Cons
Under-appreciated, under-paid, greedy management/owner

Fast Paced, Quick Orientation
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) - Los Altos, CA - August 1, 2022
Fast paced environment with a busy schedule. Fun/interesting procedures, yet very monetary focused. Largely commission based, controversial ethics of healthcare professionals selling product.
Pros
Huge discounts on services/products
Cons
Minimal flexibility

Great employees and Patients
Medical Assistant (Current Employee) - Los Altos, CA - February 25, 2021
I have worked here for 4 years. Yes, it is stressful at times, but medicine can be that way. The days go by quickly and the staff, providers, and managers are awesome. We have a great team that helps each other whenever needed. COVID has impacted the daily routines but hopefully we will get back to our famous potlucks soon.
Pros
potlucks, great staff, great manager, days fly by
Cons
always busy, need to be a multitasking pro

Pay is fine, but work environment is toxic
MA (Former Employee) - San Francisco, CA - October 23, 2020
They paid pretty well, but I had to get out of there. The managers fight with each other, ALL of the workers including providers are stressed out. The owner is OCD and only sees the bad in situations. Very bad work environment. Most people dont last more than 2 years. So glad I left
Pros
Pretty good pay, but not awesome
Cons
Toxic, managers literally fighting, everyone hates being there, stress!!

Being on my own. My own hrs, just being solo.
Custodian (Former Employee) - 3581 Palmer Dr. Cameron can park Ca. - December 15, 2019
I actually really enjoyed my time with Berman Skin Institute. I think they just opened to many offices and spread themselves to thin. Of course when they had to cut corners , my custodial services where gone. The good doctor s had to do their own Cleaning.

The providers only care about money
Medical Assistant (Current Employee) - Roseville, CA - August 12, 2019
The provider there only cares about money and management is never on site. Promotions and trainings were promised but never followed through. They will tell you travel will be light but they will start scheduling at other locations with out your consent.

very productive work place, fast paced with frequent pot luck lunches
Medical Assistant (Former Employee) - Palo Alto, CA - January 29, 2019
My time at The Berman Skin Institute was satisfying. I learned how to do Cool Sculpting fat loss procedures, became proficient in all aspects of the Artas hair transplant treatments and was able to gain knowledge on MOH'S surgery. ( a skin saving surgical procedure commonly used for skin cancers treatments) The most enjoyable part of the job was the great staff who's hard work and willingness to serve often made tough days fly by. The hardest part of the job was the highly fast paced, high volume patient and stressful work load that would best be compared to an urgent care facility. However stressful working at The Berman Skin Institute was I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity. I believe the experience has improved my qualifications and sharpened skills.
Pros
frequent pot lucks, celebrations of birthdays
Cons
short breaks, company was going through changes

Great place to work
Patient Service Representative (Current Employee) - Palo Alto, CA - December 14, 2018
I have worked at BSI for over 3 years and there have been so many positive changes in the last few years. More and more benefits and more management. I am happy to continue to grow with the great business and I don't plan on going anywhere soon.
Pros
Great benefits; great team
