Really
Good place (Former Employee) - Ashburn, VA - February 23, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedOverall good company to work for. No two days are the same. The pitfall at times can be where the scheduler template scatters employees throughout the day on shift and it’s not always accurate to when the business will be there

Horrible
Security Officer (Former Employee) - Wichita, KS - November 29, 2023
This was a horrible and miserable experience. The management is horrible all they do is yell and ridicule you for the smallest mistake like adding 1 to many items to the shelves.

My employees were great
Staff Member (Former Employee) - Springfield, MA - November 22, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The best about working here was the way the managers work with you . They include pay sick time and if you have an emergency and call out they will understand also they can make it work around your hours .This job it’s pretty easy What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Nothing I never had a problem. I’m really patient with the customers What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Every body do their own thing but if you need help you just have to ask and someone will be there What is a typical day like for you at the company? I’ll be most of the time at the register

It’s okay
Store Associate (Former Employee) - Westerville, OH - November 22, 2023
The work is fairly easy especially because this is the smallest store in the Columbus area and this store doesn’t carry furniture. You’d either be the cashier and do light stocking up front or a stocker who barely touches the register, maybe even both. But sometimes the amount of work piled on you can be overwhelming and it always happens right when you’re about to leave, it’s not all the time but it happens.

Mediocre Temporary Job, Not Feasible Long Term; Disrespect From Managers; Bad Hours
Big Lots Associate (Former Employee) - Woodland, CA - November 20, 2023
Was employed here for roughly 8 months, it was my first job. It's a mediocre (at best) first job, or a job to hold you over while you transition to something better. They only hire part time to avoid giving you the hours and benefits you deserve, and they ask you to do the work of a full time employee. They often resort to switching out what role you are scheduled on for months at a time for seemingly no other reason then managerial incompetence. (IE: Was moved from recovery to register for 3 months with no explanation, which ended up being the tipping point for me.) 15 minute breaks while you are told to recover at LEAST half the store in a 4 hour shift are horrible for your backs and knees, standing on register all day is even worse. Most of my co-workers were very friendly, but I faced constant disrespect from the managers. From attitude in the voice to outright yelling, to screaming obscenities' at employees. Saw a M.O.D try to fight a customer trying to steal, to which he faced no repercussions, while me and other employees were threatened with termination if we so much as asked for a day off a week in advance. Generally toxic work culture from management.
Pros
Minimum wage, Part time
Cons
Disrespect, Insufficient hours, Inconsistent schedule posting, Overworked

Ok job
Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) - Alabama - November 19, 2023
The job was cool but I couldn’t grow. It was a warehouse job so you should know what comes with that. Met a lot of good people made friends but I wouldn’t work there again.

Fun workplace
Store Associate (Former Employee) - Fort Wayne, IN - November 19, 2023
Its a good job for a high schooler just starting in the workforce. The managers were usually fun if you caught them at a good time. Theres not much room (or encouragement) to grow within the company.

Unrealistic expectations
Cashier/Sales Associate (Current Employee) - Delano, CA - November 10, 2023
Their expectations for cashiers is ridiculous and some days unattainable. The pressure they put to meet the expectations in so little time causes anxiety. Its a so so place to work at. Management are ok most days, definitely has its favorite and you can see it from day one. Like most past and present employers to work at a Big Lots make sure its a temporary job no matter your position in the company.

Easy
Cashier (Former Employee) - Clemmons, NC - November 9, 2023
Easy job just not enough money or hours. The job is really easy, yet boring because there is not a lot of business. They pay is really low and you really don’t get any hours.
Pros
Easy
Cons
Low pay and not many hours

Coworkers are great, they're like a second family to me, but it's not enough
Part time then service lead (management) (Current Employee) - Oklahoma - November 7, 2023
I've been here for over 3 years, and when I got promoted to management i thought it'd be great, and it has it's perks, like PTO, sick pay, etc, but I don't even make 13.50, as management, the pay is so bad here, and it's not worth all the work you have to do.
