The most useful review selected by IndeedI enjoyed working for Billtrust. I would recommend anyone looking for a job to apply. Unfortunately I was let go with no warning. I would apply again if there is a job opening.

Good culture, great management, fun work environment
Sr Program Marketing Manager (Former Employee) - Denver - March 18, 2023
Billtrust is a great place to work. The culture is friendly, open, and supportive. It can also be difficult at times to prioritize requests seeing as it is a fast-growing company and there is a lot to be done. That said, that comes with the territory of fast growth at any company. Management does a good job of helping employees determine appropriate course of action without being micromanage-y or overbearing. I loved working at Billtrust, in large part due to my manager.

Fantastic - until purchased by private equity company
Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee) - Boulder, CO - February 15, 2023
My work, my coworkers, my managers, the culture - all outstanding. Then we were purchased by a private equity company and profit took precedence over people. I'd still recommend working for Billtrust, but be aware of the influence of private equity on employee stability.

Fun place to work most employees are 100% remote.
Software Development Manager (Former Employee) - Remote - February 7, 2023
Enjoyed working at Billtrust until I was suddenly notified I was laid off. Was given less severance ultimately then what I was originally told. They used to offer stock options but that went away when they went from being public traded to private.
Pros
Unlimited PTO
Cons
Layoffs started after going from public traded company to now owned by a private equity firm.

Fast growing company with tons of opportunity
VP Product (Current Employee) - Lawrenceville, NJ - May 4, 2021
We were 9 employees when I started and are over 550 now. That growth opens up enormous career opportunities for talented people. We've never been acquired and retain the original founder as active CEO and visionary. The company invests in great benefits, training and fun events for employees. If you care about customers and delivering great software-based solutions to them, this is an excellent place to work.
Pros
Career growth, happy customers, great people, fast pace
Cons
Management turnover is high at times

All team members have stock options and receive bonuses based on company goals and objects. We work together, and have a lot of fun as part of a winning team.
Pros

Collaboration, camaraderie and support at Billtrust
Marketing (Current Employee) - Denver, CO - April 20, 2021
I can truly say I love working at Billtrust. Our leaders have done an exceptional job of driving collaboration and shared goals across teams; this has resulted in everyone "rowing the boat in the same direction". While the expectations are high, nothing feels unattainable. Everyone is willing to lean in and support one another to ensure our shared success.
Pros
Ongoing feedback and improvement is encouraged, leadership alignment

Productive and fun workplace, caring leadership.
Test Automation Leader (Current Employee) - New Jersey - April 10, 2021
Billtrust is a people-oriented company, the company places its people before the customers and believes that happy employees make the customers happier. This is truly the case with Billtrust. The CEO Flint Lane and the leadership team connect with employees via company connect meetings every quarter and are very frank and are as transparent as they can possibly be. The leadership team also has an open-door policy and is very approachable. I have worked in major silicon valley based corporations before moving to NJ and have not seen a more efficient HR department before. HR is always on the look for how to make the work environment better for the workforce. The careful talent selection process has brought in great talent into the company in the past years and the great company values and culture provide a great environment for the workforce to thrive (Hackathons, technology events, seminars, architectural reviews) and deliver great outcomes for our customers while enriching their professional experience. The company is on the path of migrating to a new platform that uses the latest and greatest technologies, microservices architecture, public cloud infrastructure, and a fully automated testing process. Billtrust also employs machine learning and artificial intelligence to provide the best value to the customers.
Pros
People first culture, Open minded leadership, an environment for "Get It Done", fun activities, work-life balance, casual dress code.
Cons
Healthcare coverage sometimes starts a bit later than joining date (depends on the joining date)

Great Culture, Great People, Great Company!
Talent (Current Employee) - Lawrenceville, NJ - April 6, 2021
Billtrust is a great place to work! The culture is outstanding and the people are truly the best! It's a fun environment to be in. It's never a dull moment. There is something always going on, which is exciting and keeps you busy. In the time I have been here the company has grown tremendously, but hasn't lost the values they stand for and are keeping the culture alive especially during the pandemic. One of Billtrusts values is, "It's all about our people" and it defintely shows.
Pros
Open PTO, Work/Life Balance

Billtrust is a great place to work
Practice Manager (Current Employee) - Lawrenceville, NJ - April 5, 2021
Billtrust has provided me a ton of advancement in my career. We follow a work hard, play hard mentality. Billtrust has values they expect everyone to believe in and follow. It is the first place I worked they are more than just a sign on the wall. The company expects a lot out of each employee and results matter. Going public was a great experience, but it is just an event. We continue to need people to help grow and scale our company. The most enjoyable part of this job is a combination of the people, and the challenge. The people are amazing and alone make you want to come to work. The challenge keeps the day from becoming mundane, and keeps you learning each and every day. Almost eight years later and I am still learning.
Pros
Company events, work/life balance, team oriented, company culture

Great Place to Work, From Private to Public
Test Automation Engineer (Current Employee) - Denver, CO - April 5, 2021
I began Billtrust as ~ 300th employee, private, mid-size company and growing fast. Culture was amazing, and new things were happening everywhere for product development/features/etc... keeping the environment exciting. 4 years later we have almost 700 employees, a great culture, and new things happening everywhere... but this time for different reasons - going Public. And for the most part, this new 'causation' of change has had little negative impact. We still push the envelope with new tech, cloud dev, and machine learning, but the public overlay now pushes transparency, process, and checks-and-balances which - not gonna lie - takes some fun out of things like most paperwork does. The necessity, however, is not overlooked, and once the dust settles in the next year I am sure we will have processes making these new audit requests operate like clockwork Billtrust, for me, has been a great company to be a part of for the reasons that - even with the large growth and dramatic market change - our culture is still intact through leadership's constant effort to keep employee centric values a cornerstone of the company.
Pros
Unlimited PTO, Great Benefits, Full Remote
Cons
none

Gives you everything you need to have a successful career
Director (Former Employee) - New Jersey - April 1, 2021
Billtrust is a place where the values are engrained in the day to day decisions. The culture is great, and you have every opportunity to grow your career as long as you take ownership in doing so. They have several leadership development, mentor, and coaching programs for employees at all levels. On top of the culture the future is bright. Some of the products on the horizon such as BPN, the "Venmo for B2B" are going to change the way businesses are handling the order to cash process. All employees are shareholders which everyone can benefit from as the company continues to grow.
Pros
Great teammates, exec team that cares about people, flexibility
Cons
You can't hide, lofty goals for everyone to move the needle forward

Cons
Fast paced environment with constant change, some times hard to keep up

A company worth fighting for
Sr Implementation Architect (Current Employee) - New Jersey - March 30, 2021
The list of reasons as to why I love it here is far too long to share, but I will share a few. Management is attentive and always willing to help where they can. I haven't been happier with a boss in any past employment! Open PTO means a great work-life balance, and allows us as employees to give a 110% when needed. In the 3 years I have been here, I have gained tons of knowledge in not only my roles, but the industry as a whole. My role can be and has been stressful at times, but like the title says, this is a company worth fighting for, we not only provide outstanding tech to our customers, but Billtrust also provides exceptional benefits to its employees.
Pros
Free lunches, BBQ's, Ping pong tables, Ice cream socials, Great benefits, Open PTO
Cons
Compensation could be better

Communication and Collaboration - Great place to work
Specialist (Current Employee) - Lawrenceville, NJ - March 25, 2021
I've been at Billtrust for almost two years now and I have been able to see myself grow both on a personal and professional level. The company values truly mean something to everyone and everyone the company makes sure to stay true to their mission and goals. I appreciate the communication and collaboration. The people you get to work with are amazing and that ripples into everything else - it makes the goals and project were working on more fun, the longer days less long, and the achievements that more exciting to celebrate. Lastly the work life balance and family focused value is something that I have never witnessed before.
Pros
Open PTO, development. communication, collaboration, state of the art technology and software
Cons
Some management teams are stronger than others

Great place to work if your in the right team
Test Automation Engineer (Current Employee) - New Jersey - March 19, 2021
The general work environment is great and most of the new teams are flexible and open to innovation. Fun and exciting. On the other hand there are a few teams that are stuck in old habits which sucks and can be a bit frustrating.
Pros
Great teams, benefits, fun environment
Cons
Old management habits, some frustrating teams

Management is clueless
Operations Manager (Former Employee) - New Jersey - February 2, 2021
Mid level and Sr Management lacks basic management skills. Think of Ini Tech from Office Space. You have handful of people who really know what they're doing, but they are about 5% of the company. These 5% work for the rest of the 95% who are just there taking up space. Overall, a company where you really don't want to be at.
Pros
Good coffee.
Cons
Too many people who don't work, but have jobs

Unprofessional Unhealthily Racist Environment
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) - Lawrenceville, NJ - May 7, 2020
You can count the amount of black & brown people working in the Lawrenceville/Princeton location with decent titles and pay, and none of them hold lead or manage roles.
People practice witchcraft at their desks.
You will not see black or brown people working on the floor/cubicles. They work inside rooms like industrial closets without windows. A lot of insecure women, so if you are confident & educated, keep it to yourself.
It is a very casual dress environment, so if you dress nice and look better than your manager, they will look for stuff to complain about. An example is why do you dress up your Jean's? Don't have a higher education than your boss because they will complain to HR about that too.

Specialist
Specialist (Former Employee) - Lawrenceville, NJ - May 6, 2020
This job is full of nothing but absolute bull. They view everything as unprofessional when you speak your mind. Do no work here if you have a strong opinionated mind!
