Top Management Needs Improvement
DRIVER (Former Employee) –  Rome, NYJune 27, 2019
The job itself isn't bad. The top individuals of management are not fair or reasonable. There is a lack of true appreciation shown, though they claim it. They fail to properly execute and enforce rules and policy.

Driver/Trianer/Office (Former Employee) –  Rome, NYJune 5, 2019
Enjoy working with the team and the children. Worked great with the school district . Worked with the school athletics office and administration office on school functions date and time Birnie drivers need to pick up at the school and drip off at destination and back to school. Make sure drivers kept their buses where cleaned and up to date with all DOT inspection. Trained new drivers ready for their CLD A road test. Order product for office supplies and if machinists.
Pros
Birnie recognized the special person to do the job
Cons
No matter what the drivers was the fault

I thought it was a great job. I learned a lot about working with the disabled and I enjoyed my job everyday I was there. Unfortunately the company layer many of us off but I would gladly go back and work there.

overall not a great place
Bus Driver (Former Employee) –  Port Byron, NYDecember 6, 2018
worked at the port byron ny location. first year there drove big bus for only 3 or 4 students that went to 3 different schools in Auburn, ny. The pay was very good. They gave travel pay due to distance from home to work. Following year took away the travel pay, was on small bus with more students going farther out in afternoon, 45 minutes from base, for 200$ LESS then the year previous. Would not relocate due to personal issues.
Pros
none
Cons
pay is not worth driving 45 minutes for

Very little contact with management. No help with problem childred
Bus monitor (Former Employee) –  Rome, NY 13440November 9, 2018
Driving school bus is not a hard job. They help you get the necessary skills to preform your job. Coworkers are friendly and helpful. Management is handcuffed by the schools so you can’t get help with problem students. This creates undue pressure in doing your job.
Pros
Friendly coworkers plenty of time for personal life.
Cons
No help with problem students

Fun, relaxed place to work
Bus monitor (Current Employee) –  United StatesSeptember 25, 2018
The Port Byron terminal for Birnie Bus transport action is a nice "family" atmosphere place to work. We have "fun days" through out the year, ex. crazy hat day, cookie day, etc.
Pros
accomodating
Cons
5 hours in between runs.

Good job to have
Professional School Bus Driver (Former Employee) –  Jacksonville, FLSeptember 9, 2018
Good job for mothers with young kids. Allow parents to bring kids to work and transport them to school without needing childcare. It allows time home with family. The hourly pay was good but the job doesn't provide a lot of hours for you to work.
Pros
Have time home with kids when they are not in school
Cons
You dont make money when kids are not in school

School bus driver for regular and dso (Former Employee) –  Rome, NYJuly 19, 2018
Management is very poor .. The people u work for there is very unproffesional... When u tell them bad things are happening to clients on a dso bus run they ignore you and allow the abuse to happen.. Yes children get to be a hand full but when bus drivers come in drunk and and under the influence they don't do anything about it they allow it
Pros
None
Cons
They need to be shut down

Very busy work environment must multitask at all times. I have learned to be patient with the customer when they are very frustrated. Management helps make things run smoothly. Workplace culture upbeat and friendly.

School Bus Driver (Former Employee) –  Jacksonville, FLJune 7, 2018
Job treated everyone fairly. Everyone worked as a team to make sure that children arrived at the school and at home safely. Unfortunately contract ended or else I would have stayed with the company.

Dispatcher/Driver/payroll (Current Employee) –  Rome, NYJanuary 28, 2018
Just in short very challenging to work for, very unclear directions, uncertain of the company future. Did not feel like management was completely honest with me throughout the time there.

School Bus Driver (Former Employee) –  Jacksonville, FLDecember 24, 2017
Working for Birnie has it's general bus driver pros and cons. The company is great to work for but it's the respect and rewards that lacks. Being a school bus driver is very hard and stressful work.
Pros
Long breaks between runs, off weekends unless you do field trips, get to see a lot of places for free
Cons
No paid vacations, raises based on contract(not guaranteed), no school no work

This was a depressing place to work. It felt like we were all caged animals just sitting around waiting for work to come in. So much drama from the bus aids who just sat around.
