Poor management, inadequate training, and disrespect are the order of the day.
Auditing Department (Former Employee) – Waco, TX – July 18, 2018
It was a real shame to leave an organization with above average health/dental/vision benefits. However, my departure was inevitable as management wasn't genuinely interested in correcting bad behaviors so employees possessing a strong work ethic could thrive. It was incredibly difficult to witness daily the disinterest of a management audit team with a "Do as I say" versus "Do as I do" mentality. Shareholders on the audit side seemed to delight in treating subordinates as nonpersons and/or idiots. Honestly, this was the absolute worst experience of my 30+ years as a productive member of the workforce. Moreover, BKDs workplace culture is entirely antithetical to the culture demonstrated in the audit department. The most enjoyable part of the job was leaving it behind at 5:00 pm. The hardest part of the job was having no discernable support and inadequate training. Management personnel disparaged staff behind their respective backs recurrently and did not concern themselves with building up employees. It was nothing short of deplorable! In such an adversative environment it is incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to learn, grow, and advance. The audit department was simply despicable; too many duplicitous managers/supervisors. The entire experience leaves a perpetually BAD taste in my mouth although it occurred only a few years ago.
Generous health/dental benefits and compensation.
Management behavior in the auditing department was both despicable and hypocritical.
Bookkeeper (Former Employee) – Little Rock, AR – June 29, 2018
BKD treats their employees well. They seem to really treasure what skills and talent they have. I would have loved to stay with this company, however they do not have any locations near my new living location.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at BKD. It is a great place to work for aspiring CPA's or really anyone looking to start out in the accounting field. Hours and pay are above average in my opinion compared to most other firms. No complaints.
Audit Supervisor (Former Employee) – Oklahoma City, OK – June 13, 2018
I would not recommend working at the OKC office to anyone. There is no onboarding for new employees. There is no support from the partner group. There is no way to make management happy. There is no way you would want to work here.
TAX MANAGER (Former Employee) – Jackson, MS – June 12, 2018
Management is absolutely horrible in Jackson, MS office. The culture and work-life balance is non-existent, very high turnover, old-school and stuffy work environment. Not willing to see the future of accounting profession and how it's changing.
Health Care Consultant (Current Employee) – Kansas City, MO – June 11, 2018
It is a CPA firm so I maybe it goes with the territory but this is as cold of an environment as I ever thought corporate America could be My advice would be get in and get your experience and then get out and go work with human beings ASAP. Or if you are a cold hearted corporate person then welcome home.
Great learning experience and fantastic coworkers and leaders
Senior Auditor (Former Employee) – Pittsburgh, PA – May 22, 2018
BKD was a fantastic experience. There is a real opportunity to expand technical skills as well as plenty of opportunities to expand soft skills. Exposure to various industries and leadership is very helpful.
Audit & Tax Intern (Former Employee) – Kansas City, MO – April 25, 2018
Great public accounting firm. Provides good training and challenges you to grow as a professional. They have a fast-paced environment that puts an emphasis on time management and meeting deadlines. Overall, a great place to work.
Competitive compensation. Good work culture.
Lack of job security. Constantly laying people off.
Consultant (Current Employee) – Kansas City, MO – April 16, 2018
It is probably typical of any CPA firm and they may actually be more forgiving than the big guys but it is about as cold and corporate of an environment as I ever expected. There is plenty of room to advance if you perform but often the time expectations feel unrealistic and it is a hard balance not to rush to meet them. Overall it is a very negative and overly critical environment however if you can navigate all of that then there is plenty of opportunity.
Audit Associate (Current Employee) – Springfield, MO – March 23, 2018
Fast paced work environment, where you are given the chance to learn quickly and work in teams. You are given a lot of opportunity to work with many different types of clients and the work changes daily. The hardest part is maintaining a life/work balance.
Professional Work Environment with a fast paced business driven atmosphere
Technology Coordinator (Current Employee) – Evansville, IN – February 22, 2018
A typical day at work is a fast paced high volume work environment, but its fair and you are equally rewarded for good work as you are disciplined for slacking off. Very good and friendly culture, an overall good place to work.
