Terrible Terrible Terrible
Cafe Leader (Former Employee) –  New York, NYSeptember 5, 2018
Cut throat work environment. HR quickly fires anyone who complains or raises any concerns. All of the more senior employees who represented what this company was all about have been fired or quit. It is honestly a nightmare to work there.
Pros
Free coffee
Cons
Leadership is a mess

Sales Associate (Former Employee) –  Palo Alto, CAAugust 31, 2018
One of the better "third wave" coffee companies for the coffee cultist or hipster barista. Limited options for advancement or training/instruction in necessary life skills.
Pros
Fun, interactive, collaborative
Cons
Little room for internal growth and advancement

Trash
Store Manager (Former Employee) –  Cambridge, MAAugust 9, 2018
It was trash except for free coffee. Employees were treated terribly. Very underpaid, overworked, and undervalued. Sick time accrual also was not in line with other Massachusetts companies.
Pros
Free coffee
Cons
Everything else

Hospitality at its finest
Barista (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAJuly 22, 2018
Great place to work for. The culture of the company is real from the moment you start training till your everyday shift. There is consistency in both the service and the quality of the coffee that it's offered.

If you're looking to work in coffee for an extremely corporate company, this is the way to go. Do not expect advancement or any promises they make to you to be kept.

Learning and Development Program Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJanuary 11, 2018
You'll learn a lot about coffee and tons of life skills. It's great if you're just starting out, transitioning, or looking for something permanent. However, you get what you put in.

Promising space that needs help with leadership
Manager (Former Employee) –  Oakland, CAJanuary 4, 2018
A fun company to be a part of. People are passionate about the product and mission, truly invested in what they do. Sore points around systems and infrastructure as a growing company, but should be further along for 15 years of business and the aggressive growth plan in place. Poor communications between departments, often working isolated. Leadership lacks accountability and transparency around vision, rather reporting back when actions are in place vs valuing input or keeping staff informed of future change and strategy - leads to doubts and frustrations in work flow and outcome. Youthful company with a lot of energy and positivity, provides an exciting platform to try ideas. Values of hospitality are lived.
Pros
free drinks in any cafe, great office snacks, encourages growth, shares
Cons
management needs more training, lack of transparency, lower pay for industry

Education and hospitality-focused internally; quality and experience-driven for guests. The company provides a lot of fantastic opportunities for its employees and pays better than most similar jobs in addition to providing benefits.
Pros
great opportunities, healthcare, above-average pay
Cons
communication and transparency could be improved internally

Manager (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAApril 14, 2017
Co-workers will give you life and keep you sane. Hard to advance beyond barista or management. Work/life balance as a manager is terrible. You are never not on-call or able to turn off. Management compensation is unrealistic and low for how much you actually work.
Pros
Great healthcare and benefits

Server (Current Employee) –  Hopewell, NJJanuary 6, 2014
A typical day at work involves a lot of laughing and hard work. Management can be understanding yet critical. The patrons are usually easy going and enjoyable.
