The worse company to work for
Housing Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CASeptember 9, 2019
One of the basic themes in ethics is fairness, this place is anything but fair. Promotions within the company are based on cronyism -which interferes with fairness. Promotions should be based on ability not favortism ( whether it’s favoring one race over the other or favoring based on friendships.) favoritism gives undue advantage to someone who does not necessarily meet the required positions of the job but rather because they fit a specific mold the company is looking for.
Pros
Coworkers help you out when you need it, location
Cons
Favoritism, good workers get looked over, no room to grow if you are not a favorite, HR does not take actions for complains against the work environment and culture, the hiring managers only hire who they favor and like.

Thank you, next!
Specialist Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAFebruary 6, 2019
Been here for a couple of years now.

There is a management elite type of feeling that looks down to the subordinates a common job position.

There is favoritism of course and nepotism. Management makes themselves to be the elite of Brilliant Corners, spending tax money on retreats or traveling either because of business demand, but mostly is for pleasure.

The executive time to time make promises to specific staff members just to make them feel engaged, but don't execute the promises.

The job itself is alright, don't need a college degree to do 90 percent of the jobs, sometimes it feels that the mind just dies while working as most of the work consist of gathering and recording paperwork for LA County.

There are free snacks sometimes when management leave the leftover for the common employees to enjoy.

Even if one works hard and provides good results and go over the line to accomplish a task, management or senior executives mentions that they better look outside the company for the higher position because they come to a conclusion that they are smarter than anyone else in the company even clearly is not the case, there are employees with hidden great skills, but they don't use per limitations of the work at hand or lack of work environment flexibility, feels like one becomes stuck in a silo.

It feels good sometimes in helping out homeless and provide exceptional work to them and go beyond the line even management doesn't appreciate.

One cannot retire working for Brilliant Corners, there is no job assurance in the long term

I recommend anyone to apply
more... for a job here temporarily but don't expect much, try to find a challenging and critical thinking job out there and also do your best no matter what you do

One more thing, sometimes client threats specific employees of the company as a whole which makes it feel unsafe environment. A few people were able to trespass security making all the way inside the office, most of the time are false alarms but can be dangerous

Pros
Food left overs, great co-workers
Cons
Management, white privilege feeling, stressful, clients threats, a lot of work feeling understaffed

Not a place for advancement
Housing Coordinator (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CAJanuary 29, 2019
If you are a person of color don't seek advancement with Brilliant Corners. You'll be overlook no matter how hard you work and achieve goals. Managment is not trained and only hired based on favoritism. "White privilege". There is no training provided and even so some of the managers dont know the job to train new hires. I'd you voice your opinion or concern you're looked as being aggressive and then your opinion or concern is overlooked.
Pros
Somewhat free medical
Cons
Lack of managment training, no room for advancement

Most supervisors are what drive employee to stay, however upper management don't talk to low level employees and the promotion process is filled with nepotism. The sad part is that this company could be great, but the current direction does not make sense.

Controller (Current Employee) –  San Francisco, CAFebruary 9, 2018
I'm still fairly new but my first several weeks have been nothing but great. We have a group of very diverse and energetic folks who are eager to help our clients. Like many other places, there's room for improvement but it's noticeable around the office how much talent and potential we have in this place.

Smoke and mirrors
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee) –  San Francisco, CADecember 12, 2017
Things are not what they seem there. People start off really nice and once you're comfortable things change. The management is horrible and passive aggressive. They allow things to go on among the company and employees that shouldn't. They hire people for management positions that have no experience in management and have no clue how to treat people(nepotism is real at this company). You are always confused about the direction the company is going in because you are told so many different things. I would not recommend anyone work here.
Pros
pay benefits
Cons
stress, how your treated and the co workers and management.

Friendly and intelligent staff, great career development
Program Supervisor (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CADecember 7, 2017
I've worked here for two years and can't say enough good things about the agency. The executive staff have taken great steps to support staff and make the necessary changes to accommodate the expansion of our organization. The programs we develop and manage are innovative and there's always opportunities to make changes and improvements. The folks who work here are genuine, intelligent, and the managers are interested in helping develop your skills and offer support often.
Overall a great place to work! Looking forward to the next two years and many more.

Account Clerk (AR) (Former Employee) –  1390 Market Street #405, San Francisco, CA 94102August 23, 2016
Most days I get early so I can get emails done and be ready for the next work. As an accountant, it tend to be work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment. Accounting information is very time sensitive and needs to be processed in a timely fashion. Much accounting work requires individuals to work as a team. This helps in the completion of projects as well as the spreading of knowledge between team members. I worked with a team which really helped. We share real-time information to co-workers. The hardest part in the work is to figure out where are those not stated checks coming from? The most enjoyable part of the job is we can effectively try our best and to figure out problems. With accounting constantly changing and since it covers such a wide array of complex topics, there is no way one person can know everything there is to know about the subject. Thus, teamwork makes projects more attainable.
Pros
Free food or brown bag.
Cons
Short break, Low salary
