You get to help the homeless!

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The best part of the job is that you get to work in a team, and assist those who are in need. Housing coordinators are given very huge caseloads and are often overworked. Finding a balance between personal and professional life is necessary.

Pros

Pto, health insurance, dynamic work place

Cons

No upward mobility, long hours, driving, low pay

Needs help

Brilliant Corners thinks they are better than what they are. Majority of leadership is untrained and egotistical and doesn’t recognize the need to improve. The CEO is oblivious to how bad the culture and nothing will change as long as that stays the same.

Great organization

A team truly working to support and improve the lives of their vulnerable clients. Great work culture working with caring people. Non profit salary but worth the mission.

Great people but Most Unfriendly Manager in Operations.

Without going into details I think had the Director of the Organization been able to take away a bit more time from the, I mean this, the critical and time sensitive work needed for funding we wouldn’t be having this review.

Great Place

Brilliant Corners is genuinely a place where you feel happy to go to work the next day because you have a family rather than just a team working forwards the same purpose.

How older employees treat their new tenants

My overall review about Brilliant Corners is "I can hardly wait to become one of the newest members". There's nothing bad to be sad about this company, as for their employees, where should I begin.

N/a

This organization was the worst and they are extremely racist!!! They do not value people of color and their ethics. They treated everyone of color so poor and discriminated against us all, in addition, to firing us all.

Coworkers are amazing, management not so much

The nonprofit feels like a startup/corporate workplace. Your coworkers will be some of the most interesting and inspiring people you'll ever meet. Management, however, is not transparent about the direction of the organization or how to advance.

The worse company to work for

One of the basic themes in ethics is fairness, this place is anything but fair. Promotions within the company are based on cronyism -which interferes with fairness. Promotions should be based on ability not favortism ( whether it’s favoring one race over the other or favoring based on friendships.) favoritism gives undue advantage to someone who does not necessarily meet the required positions of the job but rather because they fit a specific mold the company is looking for.

Pros

Coworkers help you out when you need it, location

Cons

Favoritism, good workers get looked over, no room to grow if you are not a favorite, HR does not take actions for complains against the work environment and culture, the hiring managers only hire who they favor and like.

Brilliant Corners is an amazing organization. It has the one of the best office environments I have ever been apart of. Its a very positive and fun office environment. They take care of their employees with great benefits and support from other employees. The management is great and very supportive and provide great training.

Pros

Zen room, lunch lounge for employees, coffee machine, alkaline water machine, employee events, staff support and training, rewarding work

Cons

Too much competition within the organization to move up

Thank you, next!

Been here for a couple of years now. There is a management elite type of feeling that looks down to the subordinates a common job position. There is favoritism of course and nepotism. Management makes themselves to be the elite of Brilliant Corners, spending tax money on retreats or traveling either because of business demand, but mostly is for pleasure. The executive time to time make promises to specific staff members just to make them feel engaged, but don't execute the promises. The job itself is alright, don't need a college degree to do 90 percent of the jobs, sometimes it feels that the mind just dies while working as most of the work consist of gathering and recording paperwork for LA County. There are free snacks sometimes when management leave the leftover for the common employees to enjoy. Even if one works hard and provides good results and go over the line to accomplish a task, management or senior executives mentions that they better look outside the company for the higher position because they come to a conclusion that they are smarter than anyone else in the company even clearly is not the case, there are employees with hidden great skills, but they don't use per limitations of the work at hand or lack of work environment flexibility, feels like one becomes stuck in a silo. It feels good sometimes in helping out homeless and provide exceptional work to them and go beyond the line even management doesn't appreciate. One cannot retire working for Brilliant Corners, there is no job assurance in the long term I recommend anyone to apply -

Pros

Food left overs, great co-workers

Cons

Management, white privilege feeling, stressful, clients threats, a lot of work feeling understaffed

Not a place for advancement

If you are a person of color don't seek advancement with Brilliant Corners. You'll be overlook no matter how hard you work and achieve goals. Managment is not trained and only hired based on favoritism. "White privilege". There is no training provided and even so some of the managers dont know the job to train new hires. I'd you voice your opinion or concern you're looked as being aggressive and then your opinion or concern is overlooked.

Pros

Somewhat free medical

Cons

Lack of managment training, no room for advancement

Dtla

Most supervisors are what drive employee to stay, however upper management don't talk to low level employees and the promotion process is filled with nepotism. The sad part is that this company could be great, but the current direction does not make sense.
