Chaos
Dining Services Manager (Former Employee) - Bloomington, IN - September 22, 2023
At Brookdale management does not care as long as they don’t have to put in more than they are scheduled for. You can expect to come to work and be the cook, and the only aid on the floor and have to get dinner out with you and a nurse. No one else is in the building by then so it’s up to the 2 of you to round everyone up and serve all 30 people. Did I mention all while you are supposed to be the cook?
Pros
Free lunch even though it’s not edible usually
Cons
No upper management help.

Manager was never around, residents were poorly taken care of, no one wanted to work, trying to do things for school or getting time off was impossible

Made a huge mistake working for them!
Sales Manager (Current Employee) - Moses Lake, WA - September 21, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Absolutely nothing!!!!! Worst company ever! What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Corporate does not care about their employees. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Hostile work environment. That corporate creates. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Nothing but pure stress. This company is horrible.

Very challenging place to manage a kitchen.
DSC (Former Employee) - Kingsport, TN - September 21, 2023
Very challenging place to manage Everything is set up to be successful except for a complete lack of available hours. In order to run a kitchen, keep it clean, and keep residents happy you need more than 3 cooks, all of which double as dishwashers. I was there for almost a year as DSC. Before me there was a revolving door of people trying to manage a department which in my opinion is unmanageable do to lack of available hours. It seems the revolving door continues.... If this company truly cares about their residents, than necessary changes need to be made with their culinary department.
Pros
Good benefits Brookdale are everwhere
Cons
No staff, no available staff, poor guidelines in place to hire staff, not having what is needed to run a kitchen

Great place
Housekeeping (Former Employee) - Jacksonville, FL - September 20, 2023
Working with the elderly, they are very sweet people. Great environment. Management cares. not a fast pace. Around the holidays, they have the best parties.

When I become their age I wouldn't mind renting there way down the road.
Caregiver (Former Employee) - Denver, CO - September 20, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? The resident's for the most part are happy to be there. They make friends and share tables for their meals. It is a welcoming environment. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Some of the resident's are too demanding and expect a lot out of you on their dime. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? As I mentioned before,it is a comfortable environment where most people get to know one another, befriending one another. What is a typical day like for you at the company? Since I only used to you three one hour days back to back there was a lot to get done with each individual. I was able to make their bed or change sheets, help get them showered and or dresses and had breakfast or brunch on the table with an occasional load of laundry in as well. It was quick work!

Not the greatest place, just don't waste your time
Line/Prep Cook (Former Employee) - Lakeland, FL - September 20, 2023
When I first started it was fine, but over the year when I worked I got more responsibilities put onto me, and less praise for what I did out of what I was being paid to do. They also fired me after a year due to me trying to take bereavement leave (that fell into the handbook of what I could take).
Cons
not paid enough, bad working environment, horrible management

Surprised the heck out of me
Maintenance Technician (Current Employee) - Albuquerque, NM - September 18, 2023
Show up , do you job and leave. Every job has is downs, but this place is 95% amazing. Motivation from managers missing, but the residents appreciation makes up for it.
Pros
Free meals, great people all around, everyday there's a tremendous feeling of accomplishment.
Cons
Management doesn't see your hustle or work ethic. But residents do and that makes up for it.

Very difficult place of work.
Caregiver/Med Tech (Former Employee) - Charleston, SC - September 18, 2023
Many employees are great. Management is very scattered, rude, and overall not helpful. Rude even. Most residents belong in a nursing home not assisted living. Many cannot do for themselves at all. High stress work environment, as management will pile work on associates rather than helping. Definitely the worst job I’ve ever had.
Pros
Education classes offered.
Cons
Extremely high stress

Apparently No one *wants to work in assisted living
Maintenance Technician (Former Employee) - Wakefield, RI - September 17, 2023
Truly depressing. Super sub par work done (on the building) leaving dumpy apts rented for 10k/month , inept superiors, poor management. Basically everyone is hanging on by a hair and is in a transitional phase or stuck. The only people committed to their jobs (still overworked and underpaid) are the medical staff. Administration , sales , and maintenance departments could care less about the work/residents/employees
Pros
Free lunch (unpaid)
Cons
The food was terrible/usually leftovers reserved later in the week

The lack of compassion is appalling
Resident Programs Coordinator (Former Employee) - San Marcos, CA - September 17, 2023
There is a general atmosphere of bullying amongst the departments, which is supported by the attitude that supervisors are always in the right. In addition there is a definite lack of senior care knowledge and a lack of empathy. If you care about residents prepare to feel helpless in the process to make their lives better. Upper management couldn’t care less and associates are not valued no matter how hard they work and advocating for the residents and fellow associates is not encouraged. In fact the exact opposite happens if you try.
Pros
Residents
Cons
Apathetic management

Ok
Nurse (Former Employee) - Denver, CO - September 16, 2023
Management was ok. Offered a lot of hours due to low staff. Everyone was nice and the residents were sweet. Wished they paid more and the benefits were better.

I wouldn’t encourage a roach to work there. They’re only in it for money and increasing residential rate
Residential Assistant (Current Employee) - Biloxi, MS - September 15, 2023
What is the best part of working at the company? Residents and their families Minimal work to do after dinner What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Low pay, you don’t have to be certified to handle or change the patients, they don’t teach you how to change or bathe patient. Some patients are living in rooms with mold in them. They talk about you with other employees What is a typical day like for you at the company? Hectic most days but nights are smooth.
