Fairly good place to work

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Overall, it is a good workplace. The pay could be better. Culture depends on the unit. Ratios also depend on the unit. Starting as a new grad I had a good experience.

Do more with less mentality

Being asked to do more with less and caring about the almighty dollar has become the theme. There is a boys club and glass ceiling as well as lack of accountability

Work of heart

I loved my job with Bryan. My manager was amazing and very supportive in every way possible. She did her best to establish work life balance for employees and took feedback into consideration. Some patients were tough, but that’s healthcare. I just couldn’t do nights anymore and was supported in that transition.

Pros

Supportive management

Cons

Night shift, benefits

Many changes in recent years

Upper and direct management has really lost touch / stopped caring about front line employees. It’s very different than used to be years ago before they started buying everything.

Good staff nurses

My coworkers were divine, management was a little out of touch. Pay was fair. Workplace culture depended on your unit. Look for a good unit manager and you’ll have a good time.

Great experience in an acute care setting, great team of people and management who are very helpful

Great experience in an acute care setting, great team of people who are very helpful and great to work with. Can be a stressful work environment with long hours and critically ill patients. Very fast paced.

Longevity

Great place to work, many opportunities for advancement and growth within. A lot of long term employees! I worked as a nurse tech while I completed my degree, then a nurse on the floor. Lots of great learning and support as I was in school.

It's just not worth it.

What is the best part of working at the company?I loved most of my coworkers. The majority were there for the patients, a few were not. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The mandatory overtime and patient load. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? The work environment was stressful, the culture did not support the nurse. No one should have lost their job during Covid. What is a typical day like for you at the company?huddle in the morning before going to the floor, prioritizing your day after, getting to a patient room, and then getting a call to go do something else, prep a pt, lab, etc. mornings were total chaos. Depending on who was the charge nurse that day, set the tone for whether or not you would get help.

High expectations, not enough staff

My manager was great, but they were always short staffed. Rarely got a CNA for the floor and dietary, phlebotomy, housekeeping always short staffed, so nurses end up doing the job of 5 people for no extra pay. When there was enough staff, you can count on them sending people home.

Wonderful place to work

Just do it!I have been at Bryan a long time and the work atmosphere is the best. My manager is amazing. Everyone works together to get the job done. I feel appreciated.

Loved Bryan

Worked in Bryan’s NICU before I moved. Loved it! Great coworkers, great environment, and loved the patients. I felt like Bryan really cared about their staff

Some fun activities outside of work

Fast paced at times. Not always enough staff. Abusive patients at times. Some really good friends were made. Lots of new nurses and Traveling Nurses.

Caring

I really enjoyed my time at Bryan. They seemed to really care for their employees. Benefits were good when I was there! But the pay was average. They have you wear royal blue scrub tops with black bottoms haha.

I enjoyed working there and was a great place to learn.

I worked on the adult psych unit and enjoyed many aspects of working there. Bryan offers great pay, unfortunately we were dealing with short staffing like every other hospital. I enjoyed my co-workers a lot burnout was high. Most enjoyable part of my job though was working with the patients. I would still encourage many people to work here as this was a great organization overall.

Management

A lot of the management really brings you down. Some do not care about your problems outside of work. Management can make or break a unit. Some units were great.

It's alright.

They recently added in extra benefits for working overtime as well as some other benefits. The insurance here is still terrible and it's expensive to get care so I go to their competitor here in town. I am not a floor nurse so my stress is low most days but I know that the ED RN's here run their butts off for the same pay. The management is sub-par- see the messy bun scandal. They are out of touch with what we need as deserve as nurses.

Pros

job security- people are quitting/leaving all the time, reasonable nurse/patient ratios (except in ED).

Cons

cafeteria food is gross most evenings/nights and is expensive, insurance sucks, high stress

Overall good

I’ve been at Bryan East for 7 years. The company is trying to do more to make staff RNs stay by increasing pay and benefits. Unfortunately all of these new benefits have resulted in management pushing for tighter staffing even when staff is available. We have felt this pressure and it has been resulting in higher rates of burnout and dissatisfaction. It’s great to have amazing overtime pay but who wants to work extra when they are exhausted from the regular workweek?

Mediocre

The financial compensation could be improved. Even with recent raises/adjustments and bonuses, I feel underpaid for the amount I am expected to do at work.

Great place to learn… And then leave.

Loved my job… I didn’t love the management. After being hazed and “proving myself”, the job got better… But management never did. There was no confidentiality with management—middle or upper. If something was said to management, everyone knew about it within a week. Only the managers’ favorites got advancement opportunities.

Good pay

The pay is good but it isn't worth it for everything you have to put up with. You're constantly floated to other units and may end up working with people who aren't friendly.

Pros

Good pay

Cons

Floated to other units constantly

Great place to work

The manager of unit is transparent and great with communication. Co-workers were awesome. There was teamwork in all areas. I am really glad to have worked there.
