Time to find themselves
Program Director (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJuly 14, 2018
BT Americas and largely BT Group overall have been re-inventing the wheel over the past 5 years. In 2018 the company further re-organized and is looking for a path into the 'Digital Space'. A challenging portion of the work at BT is simply figuring out what and how and creating each process to support your efforts.
Pros
Flexible schedule
Cons
New Organization

British Company with a Disdain for USA divisions
Director (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJuly 14, 2018
Absolutely no leadership with decision making authority in US. 100% of decisions are based on BT and their cable company focus in London. There is a clear disdain for US offices and staff. Zero investment in training; zero growth for career for anyone in BT in USA. They just resell other phone companies' circuits across US and really can't compete any more with Sprint, Verizon and AT&T. Their "global" network outside the US is substantial, but try actually ordering and delivering circuits, routers, networks and you will find the broken distributed provisioning mechanisms and procedures (mainly manned in Hungary and India) yield even the simplest of designs taking MONTHS to deliver (not the usual 30-90 days of a brand new connection; I'm talking 4-6 months by the time its all working). NOT a place to go to in US for a career. Avoid avoid avoid.

Great Experience! Not bad for the first job out of college.
Event Coordinator (Current Employee) –  Chesapeake, VAJuly 12, 2018
Great Salary and benefits! Work can be repetitive but fulfilling and I really enjoyed the people I work with. However the changes made by the senior management are not always for the better. Change for the sake of change.
Pros
Great benefits and salary!

Project Manager (Former Employee) –  Houston, TXJuly 12, 2018
You never knew from year to year if your job was going to be outsourced to India or Latam. BT was always cutting people and outsourcing jobs overseas cause they paid less to 3rd world countries to have them perform your job. BT didn't care about their employees.

Just OK
Senior Manager (Current Employee) –  New York, NYMay 29, 2018
I don't believe executive management understands the business needs of our customers. BT is very bad at creating new products that are eye openers. BT's culture is do it the cheapest way possible, not the best way.

Challenging & rewarding
Service Advisor (Former Employee) –  Belfast, MEApril 19, 2018
BT's challenging part would be dealing with customers but at the end of each month there were acknowledgments for people with brilliant call scores. This included call handling time, low transfers, one call resolution & amount of calls taken each day. Within BT there was always education on new products & on how to handle types of callers. There was always managers there to help with unreasonable customers & educating you on systems. In the office suite there were always employees engaging in activities to get everyone to work with each other more effectually. The games they would have would have rewards for participations. The job came with benefits such as free broadband & phone line, also discounts on new products.
Pros
Career ladder, education, break areas, rewards
Cons
angry customers, 1st year only guaranteed, moving between departments

Executive Assistant (Former Employee) –  Frisco, TXApril 16, 2018
I would prepare reports for the V.P and Engineers.

They were a British Company so I learned a lot about their culture and style of management.

They were very fair and nice people. I felt a appreciated at my job. And I was always challenged.

I was temporary and there wasn't a permanent job available at the time. Or I would have stayed there.

The most enjoyable part of my job was work for the British manager. They were very appreciative and challenging.

I would recommend British Telecom to everyone.
Pros
Great management.

Temporary

BT in America
Business Development Manager (Former Employee) –  San Mateo, CAApril 14, 2018
BT is a British company that wanted to move into the internet space during the first .com boom in the late 90's. They leveraged expatriate leadership that did not understand american business much less how silicon valley works.
Pros
travel
Cons
Poor US presence

Trying to find their way
Manager (Former Employee) –  USAFebruary 27, 2018
Some good people, some very smart people, but they are struggling to redefine the company in a fast changing industry. While they want very much to be leaders, they struggle to advance how they do things. They need major reconstruction of the foundation of the business to survive.
