Software contractor (Former Employee) – Saint Petersburg, FL – July 9, 2018
My time with the Software Team at Bucher-Emhart was exciting and enriching. I learned many new skills and felt that my contributions were valued.
Our days started with a standup meeting where every team member reported the status of her/his project to discussed difficulties and potential solutions with the team. Fellow engineers made enthusiastic suggestions and comments, or could crack jokes and laugh.
The immediate team leadership was very competent and modest without the all too common self-aggrandizing arrogance that can sometimes be found in similar environments.
The software technologies in use were modern and well chosen for the intended purpose and I enjoyed learning several new skills during my 6 month tenure.
In my humble opinion, the engineering team had the desire to devote more focus to real UX/UI engineering practices, but at the time there were not enough resources available to push the Scout project towards more user-experience related development goals.
Given the dramatic memory leaks and other urgent issues that we had to face in 2016, I agree that it was the logical choice at the time to place UX/UI improvements for Scout in the “Nice to Have” category.
I have the hopes that this has changed now and would be excited to contribute to significant improvements for Scout in this field.
