Warehouse setting in an economically depressed region
Warehouse Worker (Current Employee) –  Murray, KYAugust 5, 2018
Arrive at work to clock in and process incoming merchandise.
1/2 hour non paid lunch break. Typical 10 minute breaks; mid morn & mid afternoon. Facility is not well heated or cooled. Work until the merchandise is processed. Some days require OT and some days you are sent home early with no pay...voluntary or mandatory. Just depends. At this location, it seems to be feast or famine but it is definitely not a true full time job as was originally stated during the hiring process.
Been thru 2 managers; each not skilled in their assignments. Poor management makes for tough employee retention and low workplace morale...this place suffers both.
Management does not appreciate their employees. Its obvious. No respect provided human to human. Sad situation. Favoritism based on gender is in practice. Creates an atmosphere of degradation.
Hardest part of the job is tolerating the managerial attitude and daily personality display.
Some of the co-workers are great ppl.
Pros
Its a paycheck with some good health benefits.
Cons
Toxic managers, inadequate training, feast or famine hours, lousy physical environment

Poor management leads to unproductive and unhappy employees
Warehouse Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Murray, KYJuly 23, 2018
I was excited about working here when I was offered the job at a decent salary for my area, 40-50 hrs a week. Sadly, that only lasted 2 weeks. Mandatory overtime with little notice and no compassion for employees with planned vacations or those that care for ill relatives. They cannot keep enough staff to get job done, so supervisors end up with making same as hourly employees because they are paid a salary barely over the limit for having to pay overtime. Injuries and accidents abound due to their inability to properly train and retain staff. OSHA accident waiting to happen under current Operations management.

These large employers should realize that happy employees produce and stay with a job much longer than people who are treated like dirt. Production numbers would not be an issue if they could retain employees longer than 1 week.

The Other Side of Retail
Sales Manager (Former Employee) –  New York, NYJune 25, 2018
It was an extremely interesting experience to learn what drives the other side of big box retail for their daily operational needs from the register tape and garbage can liners to the cleaning agents used for their floors.

Reporting was done weekly to review products and be sure to keep the proper levels of inventory available in the pipeline for the customers' needs. Review and analysis of current product offering and recommendations and the introduction of new, cost-saving or more efficient product for the customer to use. Relationship building with the buyers through meetings, conference calls, updates and trade shows.

I learned the logistics part of the company from the dedicated people who work at Bunzl. The culture of the workplace is everyone is willing to help each other, celebrate each other's success, and guide them when needed. Incredible learning at the trade shows and all the products that are available.

The most enjoyable part of Bunzl is the people. Management is extremely busy, but will always make time for you if you need some help. They treat you very well and are very fair in their expectations. Opportunity to grow within Bunzl and even for relocation.
Pros
Nice people to work with. Great benefits. Opportunities to advance.

Forklift Operator Selector (Current Employee) –  Anaheim, CAJune 17, 2018
Bunzl is a good job with decent pay and benefits. It is a very fast paced environment. You learn how to think on your feet and be efficient working here. Work is busy from the time you start to the time you leave. Management is understanding for the most part. The job can be be physically demanding if not use to working in a very fast paced environment.
Pros
Good benefits.
Cons
Lots of overtime work.

Relaxed but can be stressful at times
Order Selector/Forklift Operator (Former Employee) –  Tracy, CAJune 2, 2018
You'll start off the day with a team meeting and how much work is left to do from 1st shift and then how much has to get done on your current shift. After finishing whatever 1st shift left behind, you would then start on your work orders for the day. Just like any other order selecting job, youre required to pick all products correctly and build them onto your pallet. After picking each order, you then wrap and palletize your order and then load it onto the correct truck. Drivers can be very picky on how you load each pallet, so it has to be loaded in a way that it makes it easy on them to unload it. If youre looking for overtime then this is the place to be. After the end of your shift, every employee is required to clean each aisle that they are assigned and then help fellow employees if needed. It is a very relaxed job besides from all the work that is required because we are allowed to listen to music, AS LONG as it dont show any negative affect to our production. Its a fun job, if you dont mind how much that needs to be done and thats including the work orders that are left behind from 1st shift. I enjoyed the job but it could be stressful at times due to all the Overtime that we did.
Pros
Company BBQs and Manager buys us pizza if we hit our numbers for the Quarter
Cons
A lot of work but thats normal

Do not work here
Warehouse Worker (Current Employee) –  York, PAMay 15, 2018
Management is a joke. They let the people who are lazy get away with everything and do not take actions against them. The hardworking employees get taken advantage of . Raises are minuscule if you even get one. If you take a day off, the day you return you are punished. They work you like dogs and do not care. Management sits in the office and does not help or know what is going on. People sit around on their phones instead of working.

Understaffed and Underpaid
Order Picker (Current Employee) –  Oklahoma City, OKMay 8, 2018
Understaffed warehouse that causes workers to carry more than a typical load of work causing injuries, unhappy workers and a revolving door. Seniority matters nothing to management.

Procurement/ Purchasing Agent (Current Employee) –  Philadelphia, PAMay 1, 2018
The company as a whole is a good employer. The working environment at the branch level can be good & bad. I have worked for general managers that allowed their employees to do their work with minor interaction. I have also worked at branches where the general manager would be involved in every aspect of each department. This has a negative effect the majority of the time, on employee morale & production. The branches are financially independent, as far as business growth, but must show profit to Bunzl corporate.

Be prepared to walk a lot.
Pick and Pack (Former Employee) –  Grand Rapids, MIApril 30, 2018
Its a HUGE warehouse. The place map is confusing, but really fast to learn. The team leader is a pain and really need to go, doesnt know how to ask for something to be done and loses temper pretty easy because she starts with her smarty mouth. Other than that, every one else is very very helpful. Its a pretty crazy, loud, fun and majority of the time so friendly environment.

It was a challenging workplace and very competitive of what we do safety awareness meetings everyday to consider I safety. Sometime when the CEO comes in town he treats my whole family to a dinner and fun night to show his appreciation of us working for the company called bunzl.

Good Place to work
Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  St. Louis, MO (office)April 19, 2018
I worked for a small division of Bunzl, the processor division. The company is pleasant to work for overall. The training provided leaves some room for improvement and their computer system was antiquated. The management was made up of people that started in sales and were promoted based on merit. The culture is mostly laid back but aggressive when dealing with sales growth. The culture is very much like what you would see in a small company, tenured employees that have been with the company for many years without much movement. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the computer system and lack of clear direction combined with completion from the Bunzl sales team. Overall the experience was good and there are a lot of really great people at the company.
Pros
Good products...mostly catalog sales driven
Cons
They need to modernize their computer system to more effectively support field sales.
