There is no compensation given for those that excel at the position of retail associate. Therefore, peers who do not pull their own weight etc are going to be given the same wage as someone who is constantly meeting sales goals and going above and beyond to provide exceptional customer service.
CHANNEL ISLANDS SURFBOARDS - Sales Associate (Current Employee) – Los Angeles, CA – May 8, 2018
it's a nice place to work at, things get done with certain freedom but they always get done. there's much to do at a place like this so it's easy to stay busy. it gives opportunities to learn from different jobs.
The organization thrives as its employees are driven, passionate, and and professional. The employees embody the mission and goal of the organization in the sense that they strive, and are, the best at what they do. The perk of having your dog at work and being able to hit the slopes during a powder day is an added bonus!
Full Time Key Holder (Current Employee) – California – April 25, 2017
Fun gig for anyone looking to work retail. Cool employees that genuinely enjoy talking about their products and experiences. Not a whole lot of opportunity for growth unless you are an aspiring retail store branch manager. No room for feedback from employees about products that should be sold at stores.
The company has a lot of positives that contribute to being very agile with their products. The ability to create new product lines each year is amazing. The company is a great Vermont company and committed to being sustainable. Great news. keep up the good work.

Some great experience working for the company followed by negative. Amazing co-workers and a great sense of community. Great perks such as season pass to local mountains, 50% off gear, bring your dogs to work. Senior management is another story.

Sales Representative (Former Employee) – Tahoe City, CA – May 1, 2014
Typical day entailed being on the road and servicing accounts. I learned sales techniques to increase sales. Management and co workers were great and fun to work with. The hardest part of the job is being dependent on the weather for a good sales season. The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to snowboard and live a fun lifestyle.
Fun environment, snowboarding days.
A lot of overtime during winter months, a lot of travel
Rider Service Representative (Former Employee) – South Burlington, VT – December 12, 2013
Responsible for customer service related inquiries, fielding all customer service calls, handling customer issues and requests, (including high call volumes during peak sales seasons), performing online order requests and data input (including billing closeouts and account management), maintaining professionalism and organization through email and phone contact, planning and preparing for sales events and promotions, and establishing professional relationships with customers and local businesses.
Burton is a great place to start a career however there is little room for advancement and they feel that giving you the opportunity to snowboard makes it ok to not pay there employees what they're worth.
Brand Ambassador (Former Employee) – Chicago – June 26, 2013
It was a one month promotional campaign where I helped to bring brand awareness to the city of Chicago. It was an unpaid campaign but in return we got free merchandise. It was a great experience because it gave me a chance to work with other creative individuals and spend my day outside in Chicago during the summer.
A dream job for a professional who is passionate about snowboarding
