Not worth I.T

Indeed Featured review

A typical day at work was extremely slow. It started and ended with cleaning tables, in between I sat guests. The hardest part of the job was time management. Due to the lack of hours I received, I had to get another job and mixed the two was difficult.

Great Hours, Good Pay, Plus Tips

Really good job if you're looking for a lot of hours to work and a not too stressful work environment, weekends are the busiest (as it would be anywhere). The training could be better if you're new to the system used for seating and specific ways to seat throughout the day, but generally not too hard to get the hang of in time. The management is friendly and makes communication a top priority for the most part, however, the staff can be a bit cliquey and cold to newer members. The customers are on the high end side and will act as such, but as long as you're professional, helpful, and friendly, you will do great here!

Management doesn't support new hires at all. They suck.

Do NOT come here if you're just looking for a new job. After training, they're going to do a whole evaluation on you where they sit down and talk to you, good or bad. Management does not help one bit with the most important part of the job. Too many tiny details that you have to learn and know in 5-6 days. If you're not a fast learner, don't come here. I wouldn't recommend this job to anyone now.

Pros

Busy, good food, break time

Cons

Management evaluation, no support, hiring process unclear

Good pat

It was a good place to work at first, until I realized I was the only English speaking person in the kitchen, which made it difficult to train and very distant between me and the rest of the kitchen staff. The managers were ok and the food was even better

Fun and continued education

I enjoyed my time at Burton's from 2019-2021. The money was great, and the staff at that time was even better. Managers were always extremely helpful and clear. There are nightly classes on different foods and all the ingredients that was also helpful for the guests

Ok

Ok was not there long.Good training. Good food.Long hours long days felt rushed to turn tables and upsell. Manager turn over but we had some good ones

Fast-paced, highly corporate, excessive sidework with 0 compensation.

Great environment to learn about quality menu items, seasonal selections, and food allergy protocol. However, Burton's still enforces unreasonable amounts of "side work" pre & post shift, without paying the correct minimum hourly rate. Excessive meetings & problematic work culture (favoritism, bullying between coworkers, lack of accountability in management, etc.)

Decent place to work

Was once a fun place. Change in management changed the entire experience. Corporate managers suck. Liked most of my coworkers. Food was amazing and great guest.

Positive environment, great PT/FT positions, advancement

Burtons Grill and Bar was the first evening serving job that I was hired for, after moving to a new city and state. My coworkers/managers were very friendly and welcoming and were always there for whenever I needed help with being in a new city. Burtons was also my first time working in an upscale-casual place, but their training program was very detailed and easy to understand. It was a little challenging at first, as their primary food focus is accommodating guests with allergies. However, because of this, I was given very thorough product knowledge and had no problem answering any guest questions. Management is very encouraging and also flexible with scheduling. The company values work-life balance and I never felt overworked. The income was pretty good AND as a server, we were paid at the end of each night, which was a huge benefit.

Pros

Culture, flexible schedules, thorough training

Cons

none

Positive and encouraging

I would say overall the job was great! All the staff was helpful and worked as a team. My last week was a little rough. Management wasn’t very nice to me my last days there. I would still highly recommend working here! The money was great too!

Okay pay and decent clientele

Gm was a terrible scary person but other than that it’s decent pay and lots of regulars that all tip well. Co workers are all easy to work with, easy job, easy money.

Great place

Great place to work, been with Burton’s for a few years and definitely consider a home away from home. Fast pace environment during season with a work performance based schedule.

Tough but worth it.

A great place to work if you put in the work, don't make enemies, and learn about allergies. Learn the Burton's standard that will be expected of you. Picky patrons but pays very well.

Growing corporate with great culture and opportunity!

Up until two months ago I never heard of Burtons but after over 10 years in the service industry I was looking for something more stable with option for growth should I choose to do so. On boarding was easy but alot of information to take in since they have not been opened for business at the time. However, here you have all the tools to succeed and the company prefers to promote everyone from within. Definitely worth investing some time in for long term vision. If you're looking for quick buck this probably won't be worth your time. For bartenders you are required to train and have at least three server (training)shifts before you train for bar shifts so keep that in mind when applying. Then I highly recommend cramming the cocktail recipes and jump right into service bar to retain those recipes. For consistency Burtons is heavily focused on accommodating allergies but also the cocktails are all measured pours (no free pour allowed). If you know your (Burtons)cocktails, have everything prepped, the shift will go smoothly. This is a great location, everyone lives in the neighborhood for the most part and good vibes at work with staff. Everyone's really friendly and helps each other out. Even when we get stressed out on busy rushes we move forward and don't hold grudges if we clash. Management is great and will take care of you, just communicate your needs. Taking initiative, working smart, helping out your fellow colleagues definitely make everything come full circle here. And management does pay attention. The people who generally complain(which is anywhere) are usually -

Pros

Room for growth, support from management, pay, staff

Cons

understaffed at the moment

There's better opportunities out there

I am a former employee of the Boca Raton, FL location and to be honest the only reason why I stayed in this toxic work environment was because of my scheduling needs. Management was very demeaning (there were good days and bad days) and I personally felt bullied by a couple of co-workers at this location. Reprimanding employees for bad behavior was only for people who weren't the "favorites". Also, the floor and bar were always overstaffed to which it **significantly** affected the tipped worker's compensation. The kitchen also crashed every time it got busy, leaving guests angry and making it up to you to rectify the long wait times for entrees. The kitchen definitely needs to improve for accuracy of orders and execution times. This is an allergy-friendly restaurant and there were times when the kitchen did not properly make the orders, exposing guests to allergens. This is also one of the least paying jobs I have taken in this industry...if you want to work a VERY structured corporate environment where you are berated for little pay then go for it. There are WAY better opportunities out there, especially around the same area. I did change the timing of employment in this review to remain anonymous

Pros

Flexible schedule, kitchen hooked me up with free dinners sometimes

Cons

Overstaffed floor and bar, low compensation for bartenders and servers, sidework is ridiculous, kicthen always crashes, management

Management was awful

I LOVED my job. I then had to take some personal (mental health) time off. Was hospitalized for 2 weeks. Upon coming home, I was informed by another employee that my manager had told everyone that "I lost it" and had to admit myself. Ended up not being able to return because I wasn't able to deal with facing him and everyone else there.

Awful

Worked at Burtons in Boca Raton Florida. The worst place I’ve ever worked. Favoritism towards particular servers. The GM is more worried about bonus’ than providing the proper means to work. The management are his puppets and they’re afraid of him. The negativity all starts at the top and trickles it’s way down to the servers. It’s a miserable work environment
