Game Tester (Former Employee) –  Redmond, WAApril 26, 2018
If you make ask mistake during the job at all, such as coming to work sick or not finishing what your assigned one day, they will fire you after you leave. No email, no call, they abandon you.
Pros
Mainstream videogames, fun people
Cons
no redemption policy

Fun environment, inconsistent hours and poor management
Level 5 Test Lead (Current Employee) –  Bothell, WAAugust 5, 2017
The typical day consists of 8 hours indoors at a computer chair, testing software. As a test lead I managed my own team, delegating tasks that needed to be completed by the end of the day.
I learned a lot about various software requirements by different companies, how to manage a team and people, and how to be responsible for all aspects of a large project.
However, the management left something to be desired. Between inconsistent staffing, picking favorites, and extremely slow advancement processing, it was very hard to want to work for your manager, instead of just working for a paycheck.
The workplace culture is very laid-back; there is no dress code, there is no strict regulation on chatting or having fun, as long as you remain productive. Scheduled office-wide breaks allow lots of time to get to know your co-workers over a game of ping-pong in the break room.
The hardest part of the job is not knowing when you're going to have work. As each day was a different contract, you would be contacted approximately 14 hours before your shift would begin; around 6pm the night before to show up at 8am. If you didn't respond quickly (30 mins) to your summons, your spot would be given to someone else. Planning social events is very difficult because of this, because sometimes you won't get 'called-in' for a few days and you need all the work you can get, but you have to cancel plans because they called you in on Saturday. The extremely inconsistent scheduling and low weekly hours (8-16) are why I'm looking for a new job.
The best part of the job is how relaxed and flexible it
more... is. You are able to cancel coming into work for any reason, with very little penalty. Each day is an individual contract and you can say any day you want that you are unavailable. In this way you can fit work into a busy school schedule, or take a day (or three) off whenever you need it. But you are not guaranteed work when you say you want it, so it is a trade-off.  less
Pros
Extremely flexible, some room for advancement
Cons
Short breaks, no benefits, random weekly hours, no guaranteed work, poor management

Very cool job!
Tester (Former Employee) –  Redmond, WAFebruary 9, 2017
Working as a game tester was awsome! However you never know what your going to be stuck playing for 8 hours and sometimes it was very boring. Also got an hour long lunch. Very confidential, understandably, you are not allowed to speak of what gets played or tested at Microsoft. But everyone was very very nice and geeky! So it made it more fun, they were helpful and was a cool experience!
Pros
decent pay, fun people
Cons
far drive, unpredictable

QA Tester (Current Employee) –  Redmond, WAFebruary 1, 2016
The job has given me a flexible source of income while allowing me to continue my studies of computer science. Despite the ubiquitous feeling of being a lowly pawn, not the worst place to work.
Pros
Flexibility
Cons
none
