Deputy Attorney General (Former Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAFebruary 17, 2019
At the Attorney General's Office you are exposed to numerous high profile cases involving millions of dollars and decisions which can ultimately determine then policy of various state agencies. Most times you are litigating against the most prominent law firms in the state. The problems involve the conditions you are working under. Most of the secretarial staff are under-trained and overworked. They simply don't have time to perform as required. During trial you do not have paralegals or others to assist you. You need to conduct direct and cross-examination and keep track of exhibits and what has or has not been admitted into evidence by yourself.

Gray, Dismal, Great Opportunity
Attorney General Becerra's Press Office Intern (Current Employee) –  Los Angeles, CAOctober 29, 2018
Working at the CA DOJ is a pretty great resume booster. It serves as a means of understanding the political sphere while staying far far away from the trials and tribulations of DC at the moment. It's an awfully gray workplace, with many people going in and out throughout the day. It's very productive but not at all efficient to work here.

DEPUTY ATTORNEY GENERAL (Former Employee) –  San Diego, CA 92128February 16, 2016
Typical day varies. Everything from trial work to appellate work to research and writing. Outstanding management. Co-workers included some of best lawyers I've ever worked with, opposed, or observed. The compensation is not competitive, even to other public agencies. Unique opportunities, however, such as litigating in forums not typically available in ordinary practice, e.g. federal appellate courts and Supreme Court of the United States. Also presented opportunities to shape the law via appellate work.
Cons
Less than average compensation.
