Long. Most people who are capable find an equivalent or better position before a job offer is given. Psych evaluation, multiple interviews, physical evaluations, background check, and follow up to each of those, before you even get into the academy. You will be assigned a background investigator and it is incredibly important you build a great relationship with them. UnAcademy is political, based on chance, but legitimately challenging as well. Really strange combination of pseudo military and college. The job and knowing the material is very important, so if you fail any test, you could get sent home immediately.

Written and oral board exams. Still a process rife with favoritism despite all of those controls because accountability of middle and upper management does not exist.

Once you graduate the academy you will be placed on a 12 month probationary period once your 12 months is up you can put in paperwork to transfer if there is an opening. Seniority gets first pick.
