Overview of Cal State Eastbay

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
While working there I had the autonomy and support of the executive team . This was a huge benefit. I worked across teams and departments. The assessments I as able to provide were used to make changes and positively impact the organization financially. The culture was phenomenal and promotes growth. Since I’ve left and the leadership has changed the moral is horrible and many people are leaving . Leadership is doing a fabulous marketing campaign externally while internally I’ve seen a mass exodus of employees, especially employees of color; questions about firing people without cause, funding shifts to unknown sources.

Poor compensation

There is favoritism and no opportunity to grow. Management is horrible. Benefits are good but thats all I can say that is good about it. Parking is also always a mess.

Good place to work while a student

A lot of favoritism. I would take any advice given by the 'representatives' with a grain of salt. Super chill work though. The workload is only really heavy at the beginning of the semester.

Nice and relaxed

I worked as a student assistant during my time at East Bay. The work was very relaxed, working at a front desk answering calls. You are limited to 20 hours a week since you're a student

Lovely students, difficult being an adjunct faculty member

While I have greatly enjoyed the classes I've taught at CSUSM, there is little to no guarantee of future work from semester to semester. Professors are often called just weeks before a semester starts to accept a class. It's hard to schedule other professional engagements when you never know when or if you'll be offered work, and have no say on the time or day that the class meets. As an adjunct I feel like a warm body rather than a valued member of the faculty.

Good sense of camaraderie but not always the best for growth.

Prostaff was friendly to student workers but departments felt not always willing to collaborate. Student workers were mostly self-guided, good for people with initiative. Biggest tip: talk to other student workers if you need support, they likely have solved the same issues.

Pros

Convenient workplace (on campus), Secure job positions, Supportive prostaff

Cons

No benefits, Required Union Membership, Full-time workload for Part-time hours

Great supervisors, flexible scheduling

The work was interesting and varied, though at times tedious. My supervisors were great. I was able to tailor my schedule to my classes. If you get to work here, I'd recommend making the most of it: learn and ask questions. The supervisors are happy to help.

Strong sense of community, but under-resourced and under-staffed.

The people are great here. There's a true sense of community among the staff and a shared mission of serving students. The big problem is that a lot of staff are asked to do too much and under-compensated due to lack of resources. But workload and compensation can vary a lot depending on the department and specific role. Some staff seem to have a reasonable workload and healthy work-life balance, while others are constantly overworked.

Stellar Office Experience

The highlight of my college experience where I met my chosen family and learned how to dominate the office clerical work and plan events for all to enjoy while maintaining my school work and personal life balance

Pros

Free food during events

Cons

None

Productive Learning Environment

The Cougar Fund is a great place to learn how to analyze the stock market, individual stocks and ETFs. We go over investing strategies and stock pitches that align with the fund's overall investment objective.

Wonderful potential with amazing students and faculty. Extremely poorly managed with high turnover (5 provosts in 7 years).

What is the best part of working at the company? The students are motivated and interesting. There are some amazing faculty on campus. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? The administration is horrendous. They are inept and unaccountable. It appears that they've completely lost sight of the mission of the university to educate students. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Administration is in an adversarial relationship with faculty. It is extremely difficult to accomplish anything unless it can be presented as a public soundbite. Salaries are low for faculty, ridiculously low for staff, and high for administrators. Pervasive environment of inequity.

Great opportunity for work experience

The summer student bridge experience is a great opportunity for entry-level work within a given profession. I've been able to utilize this opportunity to catapult myself into a successful position post graduation

Great for students

Best job for college students! Gaining experience while completing your studies and being able to go from class to work and vice versaYou can do your homework between duties

Relaxed

Helped students most of the time in a teaching lab, when no students were there the time was used to study. Little management and coworkers were characters

I wouldNot work there again.

What is the best part of working at the company?Ample vacation and holiday time. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Difficult and shifting senior leadership, with no clear direction for the organization. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Toxic and stressful. Senior leadership is disrespectful and does not acknowledge or compensate staff and management for their contributions.
