Friendly positive environment

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
Working here was by all means one of the best jobs I ever worked most of my coworkers were super friendly and professional. The residents was a pure pleasure to work with working as a dining room server I got to know a lot of them on a more personal level the CEO was very professional and and attentive to the needs of the residence and co workers very nice guy but I'm going to have to agree with some of the other reviews as far as the job security there's really no protection I would suggest forming a union maybe but other than that I think it was a really great place to work !

Terrible management

Do not waste your time. Management is terrible. Good employees get walked all over. Bad employees get praised. Great place to feel unappreciated. Short staffed and overworked for little pay.

Pros

Overworked

Cons

Terrible company

Great Staff, Great residents, and overall, a great place to work. Everyone is supportive and kind. the CEO is very welcoming and takes the time to talk to you and introduce himself when hired. The residents are a real joy.

Love the people I work with

I have worked here for almost 7 years and sincerely love working here. I work on the Skilled Nursing Unit and it’s not too big so you get to the know the staff and residents well. Canterbury is all about growth and I’ve worked in 3 different departments since being here. I hope to continue my growth here.

Pros

Free meals for working doubles, advancement opportunities

Cons

Staffing shortages

Amazing staff of caring individuals

There is currently a merger of 2 non-profit corporations on going. The resultant shuffling causes occasional chaos at the facility level. Once the merger is complete, operations should smooth back out. The frontline staff are the most amazing bunch of caregivers you could ever hope to work with.

Pros

Good health/vision insurance

Filthy

It is infested with cockroaches and rodents. The employees are lazy and do not clean .The health insurance is not worth it if you're single . I will never recommend that place to anyone including the people who would like to live there

Unfair garbage

I worked here for several years and I tell ya, I must’ve been slow. Management, joke. Pay, joke. Coworkers, joke. Completely and utterly infested with cockroaches, bed bugs, and rodents. Hours were insane, overworked and underpaid. Don’t even bother trying to go to human resources for a problem you may be experiencing, instead it’s just turned around on you to be made out that you’re the problem. Joke.

A beautiful facility; but terrible management.

I would not recommend working at Canterbury Woods. The CEO runs good employees out of the company for no reason other than his own awful attitude. He shows open contempt for employees and residents alike. There is a reason why C.W. is constantly advertising for job openings; most employees do not stay long due to this terribly inept management. This is a toxic culture that starts from the top and adversely affects the entire community. Residents and employees at Canterbury Woods deserve better!

Strong community with an unfortunate monthly occurrence.

Working at Canterbury was wonderful, the residents and staff were kind-hearted and truly a joy to be around. Unfortunately, as is common with retirement homes, death was almost a monthly occurrence and after two and a half years of entry level work, I decided it was best for me to move on.

Pros

Free lunches, flexible schedules, etc.

Fun exciting dramatic place

Like every job at the beginning it is fun but with time it gets boring. There is too much favoritism and not many co-workers are give respect including the boss.

Pros

Free food

Cons

To much favoritism

good place to work

I have been working here for 29 happy years. One of the enjoyable part of my job is the interactions with the residents. They say variety is the spice to life and I believe it. The everyday jobs and tasks are different, I have done every phase of facilities maintenance and I prefer the renovations and painting.

Pros

free lunches and good PTO and retirement

Horrible place to work

Management was horrible especially the top dogs very sneaky with residents money. I worked maintenance for 2ys couldnt believe the amt of people they fired just cause they didnt like them, must of been about 20 people, and 5 managers. Wouldnt go back if i was paid 100k a yr. Plus the HR lady is only for herself and the company not there employees.

Pros

Healthcare

Cons

Management and stealing like crazy

serving and happy workplace.

I used to start in the afternoon shift. I used to perform various duties such as: Preparing the dinning tables. Preparing the drinks. Serving the food. Serving the desserts. The management was flexible. The workplace culture was to help everyone and make everyone happy. The hardest part of the job was pushing the food cart with the meals to the seniors rooms. The most enjoyable part of the job when I serve the elderly people to see smiles on their faces.

Pros

free lunches

Cons

Short breaks and healthcare.

Management

The residents make going to work well worth it. Every job has it's hardships; management at Canterbury Woods was one of them. They do not make you feel or treat you like an equal human being, merely a paycheck to them. They don't engage with you nor do they get to fully know you. Three college best friends all in management together is a recipe for disaster. Their employees should feel safe and cared about, but they don't.

Pros

Great co-workers and residents!

Cons

Not being helped, followed up on, or taken seriously by management.

Thank you for the feedback! We do encourage a fun working environment. Canterbury enjoys planning company events such and employee appreciation picnics, Holiday Party's, basket raffles and so much more!

Fun but challenging

This was a challenging place to work in so far as the director was not personable.

Pros

Enjoyed assisting the physicians & residents/patients

Cons

Director could be difficult at times

Wonderful Place to work for.

A typical workday starts by reading the log book, so I know what is going on with the residents anything i need to be aware of will be in this book. From there i set up my med books and I am on my way to start my med pass. I escort residents to meals and different parts of the facility and also assist them with their ADL's.

Pros

Free meals. Nice Break rooms

Cons

Not really to many staff could be a little nicer, easier to work with.

Join their Journey

The most enjoyable part of this job is the moments that you receive from the residents, some of those moments are captured on photo to share with family. Working with Alzheimer's is very trying and rewarding at the same time, learning the right approach and giving support to the family along with the staff whom give a lot to them. The hardest part of the job is juggling all that is required of you and time managing that so you do not get burned out.

Pros

build relationships with residents and their families

Cons

health benefits and the compensations for the employees
