Would be great if corporate and management made some changes
Server and Bartender (Former Employee) – Layton, UT – May 7, 2018
This company (Iggy’s and Cantina) is great IF you get lucky to have good managers. (Sadly, the best GM I ever worked with recently moved out of state.) If not, it just sucks. Personally, I got the feel that some managers didn’t understand the restaurant industry from the servers perspective. That they were just businessmen and would’ve been great if kept in the office side of things. The best managers I had, in my two years with the company as a whole, started out as servers. They listened and cared about our struggles with the job. They always showed appreciation for every employee. My biggest problems were with managers who played it too strictly by corporates rules. Rules made by a corporate who seemingly doesn’t care about their bottom line employees. It’s really unfortunate because take all those issues away, Iggy’s and Cantina are great restaurants! Good food, reasonable prices.
It is worth noting that you will likely never average $20/hr here. Maybe $10/hour if you stay long enough to become a closer or bartender. Servers base pay is $2.15/hour, $3.50/hour for bartenders. Your tips are your earnings. So if you’re not working all of the longest and busiest shifts, you’re not going to make a liveable wage. I always had to have a second job with this company even as closer and bartender.
Co-workers, some managers, good food
Corporate, frequent management changes company wide

I love working at the Cantina Southwestern Grill, so many great co-workers and great management. Some days are slow some days are super busy. It’s something that’s frequently changing on a weekly basis.
Discounted meals, great kitchen staff, awesome managers

I worked some lunches which were usually slow, dinner shifts were better. However, I liked working days better because I didn't like working until as late as midnight. Management was not the best when I was there, but my co-workers were great.

At first, I really liked the job. But they insist you go by a script. And they didnt really train me at all. I was yelled at for lack of understanding about my job, and how things were supposed to happen.

The servers made almost no money. I worked lunch shifts and never ONCE made more than $35 dollars. Management just said sorry, the number of servers comes from corporate. I never broke $75 working the night shift either and commonly would make less than $40. And I would be there for HOURS doing side work. I would have made more money working fast food.
You will make more working at Denny's. This restaurant is SO SLOW. I would make $40 on a good night. Don't waste your time. Also, management is rude and lazy. Most of the people I worked with were low class hate to say it, but it is the truth.

Every company has it's pros and cons, and this company's no different, but where they lack in one area, when compared to larger companies, they make up for it in other ways. Many in the management team have been with the company for many years, and this is a reflection of the personalized attention every member of the team gets.
