The most useful review selected by IndeedIt's a decent place with decent pay. Days are long summers are hot in attics. Must be able to fit in small areas for crawlspace. Very little computer training.

Stressful Job
Teacher (Former Employee) - CDC - September 22, 2022
I love working with kids and thought this would be a great step Right from the start it was stressful. They are either consistently short staffed or people call in sick. I could never make an appointment after work, as I often had to work later. I liked the families and most of my immediate coworkers. The hirer ups all work at an office off-site. I don't think they are in touch with the reality of our jobs and the stress we are under. They can work their hours and go home. That does not happen at the centers. They are in their gilded cage with no idea how bad it is. I had to leave. I was constantly worried about licensing showing up and seeing how short staffed we were and corner being cut. The pay is mediocre for the work. I make more money and have less stress now.

Stressful and low staffed
Teacher (Former Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - August 30, 2022
The pto is amazing when you can use it. They are so short staffed right now it’s hard to get off but when they are fully staffed it’s very easy. Management is very micromanaging and doesn’t listen to you when you have a problem.
Pros
Pto
Cons
Long work hours, management is awful

A career with a purpose
Advocate (Current Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - April 28, 2022
CAP strives to provide their employees with opportunities to learn and grow. Flexible work schedules and wonderful co workers are two of the greatest assets of this organization.

I loved the people I got to work with and loved helping the families. Sometimes felt like management held us back. Although I adored the children and felt a great sense of purpose here.

Trust means nothing
Property Manager (Former Employee) - Wautoma, WI - August 4, 2021
Cap used to be a good company but has gone down hill. I left after 10 years because they over work you and have no care. Unless you work at the corporate office, you don't matter. Honesty and hard work mean nothing.
Pros
Flexible work
Cons
Healthcare, over working

Administration (Current Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - June 9, 2021
I have been with this organization for several years and I find purpose coming to work everyday. Management always emphasizes strengths and encourages advancement. If feels good to work for an organization with strong values and mission that is helping our local communities. We consistently review our objectives to insure our programming reflects the needs of the area.
Pros
Mission, coworkers, advancement

Stressful Work Environment
Teacher Assistant (Former Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - June 9, 2021
I have worked in childcare for many years. I heard really good things about CAP and switched over to work for them. The pay is not bad but the stress is high. Like so many places they are chronically short staffed. People call in sick often and they don't have enough people to cover. You end up working longer days then expected. Also the management is not in the building and they have rose colored glasses and think stressed out employees is okay. I feel bad for the kids that their caregivers are so stressed out. I have been so happy since I left.
Pros
Lot of hours
Cons
Lack of support from management

Overall a good place to work
Victim Advocate (Former Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - March 25, 2021
Co-workers are very supportive and there is good balance between home and work. However, there is a disconnect between work sites and a high turnover of staff.

Understandable if you have an appointment or family issue to address.
Program Assistant (Former Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - March 19, 2020
This company is in the US. The duties were ever being changed, so be a detailed oriented person and be able to juggle multiple tasks and yearly reports.
Pros
Occasional free lunch is left over from meetings.
Cons
Difficult to get training or the same answer from upper staff for questions.

Loved working with Children
Classroom Assistant (Former Employee) - Children's Discovery Center - July 23, 2019
I enjoyed working with the children. However they are always understaffed. So stress is high. Also it is hard to get time off because of the staffing issues. People are crabby because of this.
The people in the main office don't understand this and our not supportive. Also there is someone who always is trying to undermine you. She works up at the main office now but when she was at CDC she constantly watched for you to make a mistake. Instead of talking to you about it she 'tattled' on you by calling the main office. Reminded me of high school.
The parents are great here too. I miss them but I couldn't justify giving up my family time to stay late consistently.

Productive and fun workplace for a good cause
Freshstart laborer (Former Employee) - Waupaca, WI - December 12, 2018

Pros
Free lunches, excellent bosses
Cons
None, except that it was temporary

challenging but rewarding
Teacher Assistant/Paraprofessional (Former Employee) - Stevens Point, WI - November 8, 2018
Hardest part is working with challenging students, but that can also be quite rewarding. Watching the children grow and learn each day because of your influence is awesome.

Working at this organization taught me many things. Working with domestic violence, sexual assault and children was one of the most rewarding positions that I have had. Co workers and management genuinely care about our clients and was a wealth of information on community services.
Pros

Awesome
Production Worker (Former Employee) - Waupaca, WI - September 4, 2018
Learned a lot of new things. Awesome staff and participants. Hardest part of the day depended on the day, could be something not going right or could just be a long day.

A typical day at work
Program Assistant (Current Employee) - Stevens Point, WI 54481 - April 27, 2018
I have learned the importance of first impressions, that the initial greeting sets the tone of the day to create an atmosphere of understanding and hospitality. I enjoy the various tasks of the day, and the challenge of handling various and difficult situations by following established protocols for situations. Being part of a workplace culture that stresses teamwork is crucial to establishing a pleasant working relationship. The hardest part of the job of program assistant is to be able to give your full attention to each team member as well as handle your own responsibilities. The key is to be organized, cognizant of deadlines, and always clear communication between all team members. It is always enjoyable to know that you have done a good job, appreciated by the people you work with, the company you work for, the community you work in and to know that your efforts have made the difference in the live of someone you have helped.
Pros
Being part of a positive solution
Cons
Not enough time in the day
