I used to do the interviewing for front desk, nursing, and tech positions. My advice would apply to any interview.

Do not speak negatively of current or former employer or manager
Do not discuss past issues with co-workers
Have a logical explanation for gaps in employment or terminations
Prepare your questions for recruiter in advance, it shows interest
Think about the recruiter sitting on the other side of the table, and how many interviews they've done just today alone, and how many people have the same answers to their questions. Try to stand out, be yourself, be memorable, but not unprofessional.
Lastly, do not harass the recruiter after the interview. If they want to hire you, trust me, they will be in contact with you. They do not owe you an explanation either. You may never know the one thing they were looking for that you didn't possess. But continuously calling and emailing for status will only irritate them.
It's always good to follow up, but do not press it further, you will lose points and seem desperate, which means you'd take any job offer from any company instead of being specifically interested in their opening.
