Electrician (Former Employee) –  Grand RiverMarch 11, 2018
No work/life balance. Management is hard on employees. I was told repeatedly my livelihood depended on the plant. On call is way out of proportion to other companies. Management was unwilling to seriously remedy problems. I found another job. I guess my livelihood didn’t depend on the plant after all.

Production Manager (Former Employee) –  Chatsworth, GA 30705February 3, 2018
I worked for 21 years for Carmeuse Lime and Stone. It was a very cut throat political place to work. I was salary and worked no less than 50 hours a week. Very stressful and management was always harsh on the people. Even though I was part of the management team, I stood up for the people that worked for me and upper management was always upset over taking the workers side.

Dryer Operator (Former Employee) –  Brady, TXJanuary 22, 2018
Was hard on me because it was an over night position for two weeks then switched to days. Wasn't treated fairly because of a medical condition. Not much if anything positive about it other than the pay is good.

Sales, Marketing and Traffic Manager (Former Employee) –  Pittsburgh, PA 15222October 12, 2017
Carmeuse was a well established company with a much needed (critical) product for several different industries. A Sales Representative was expected to be self-directed. Carmeuse provided all the tools necessary to allow their sales force to be successful. Training and Technical/Logistical support were strong. The sales force was expected to report/document activities and was given a minimum goal of customer contacts. The budgeting process was rigorous and drove decisions during the year. The budget was also the primary basis for bonus compensation.
Pros
Well Compensated & Allowed to Work Independantly

Pros
It was close to very close to home

HR Manager (Current Employee) –  Gary, INAugust 31, 2017
Carmeuse Lime & Stone is a family owned (based out of Belgium) business, but it's a mid-size Company with plenty of opportunity for advancement, growth, and learning experiences. Hard work is recognized and they do a good job identifying talent and developing people for future roles. If you like a family atmosphere, good benefits, fair compensation, and a fast-paced work environment, Carmeuse is the place for you.

Administrative Assistant/Human Resources (Former Employee) –  Maysville, KYAugust 15, 2017
Carmeuse puts their employers first. They have exceptional benefits.

A typical day for the administrative assistant position is to run the daily operating reports for sales. Answering phone calls. Running the backflushes, moving inventory from one location to the other.

Lab Technician (Former Employee) –  Gary, INJuly 26, 2017
The hours were decent and the pay was okay for a new graduate. This is not an ideal working environment though. The plant is very dusty and dirty. You walk outdoors in all weather.

Great people, strong safety values, customer focused environment. Employee valuation is lacking.
Production Manager (Former Employee) –  Strasburg, VAJanuary 31, 2017
The company is very focused on customer satisfaction, and the product quality is probably the strongest in the region. They also have a great safety program, though there are a lot of "initiatives", seems whatever is popular is introduced as the newest thing for the company. Carmeuse has a strong focus on customer satisfaction and relationships, but they do not value the individual employee enough. There are frequent layoff's & management reorganizations regionally and locally. The company has high expectations of their employees, and sometimes expect too much. Expect long work hours if salaried.
Overall, this was a decent company to work for, but as an employee, you should be prepared for unexpected changes in organization. Just know going in that Carmeuse will do the right thing for Carmeuse, even if it means an unexpected layoff.
Pros
Good compensation, strong safety culture
Cons
Frequent layoffs and management reorganizations.

kiln utiliy (Current Employee) –  Winchester, VAApril 3, 2016
Decent pay for area but once they get you in a raise is like pulling teeth to get. Most of the management are useless, except for a few. There is a huge favoritism issue within departments, ecspecially in the maintenance and quarry departments. Ive been an employee here for a lil over a year and it has changed for this worse in a small amount of time. most jobs are rotating or they lie and once you get there you are changed to a rotating shift. co workers are mostly ok but there is a select few that get the favortism and all the specialized training and raises. hard work is nothing, its mostly who pleases the boss. othere than that its a job
Pros
pay
Cons
mostly everything
