Not a bad place to be a teacher considering how bad education is at the moment.
Teacher -Secondary Ed. Social Studies (Former Employee) - Westminster, MD - April 18, 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedWhat is the best part of working at the company? Loved my team and the administration was supportive. What is the most stressful part about working at the company? Parents often don't invest in their children and support the classroom. The BOE like most is political and not particularly intelligent. What is the work environment and culture like at the company? Good, DEI has some creep but at the moment, not too nutty.

Great Administrators and co-workers
Custodian (Current Employee) - Carrolltowne Elementary - December 7, 2022
Carrolltowne Elementary has wonderful Administrators and a caring faculty/staff. It's a great environment to get your feet wet in the system. If you are currently doing custodial work I suggest you consider Carroll County Public Schools. The health insurance and benefits are amazing. Since Indeed does have reviews for CCPS, it can lead you to believe they post Job openings on Indeed. This is not the case. Please visit the CCPS website for current listings. They are usually hiring all over the county. So no matter where you live, you should be able to find something that works for you.

Great place
Teacher (Current Employee) - Westminster, MD - July 1, 2022
This is a great place to work. They really care about the students and their goals in life. There are many opportunities for the teachers to take a hands on role in leadership in the system.

The longer you are here does not matter the new hires are paid more then the people who worked here for 20 years
Maintenance Technician (Current Employee) - Maintenance shop - May 27, 2022
This place seems great when you start here but the longer you are here the worse it gets. Government jobs are not what they used to be every year they take more and more away. They say they are giving you a 2 percent raise and then tell you your part of the insurance has went up 5 percent. That's no raise that is taking away in my book. I do not recommend working here.NOT GOOD!!!
Pros
Good people to work with
Cons
Bad bosses to work for

Ideally independent
Teacher (Current Employee) - Hillsville, VA - April 22, 2022
The only downside is the freedom. New teachers may experience some difficulties with the absence of a pacing guide, depending on the department. More seasoned teachers would probably revel in being able to be king of your own curriculum. The county is family and community orientated with an understanding admin.
Pros
Friendly atmosphere, supportive environment, freedom to make classroom decisions
Cons
Not much to speak of.

No diversity, small town. little professional development , administration was supportive of work/life balance , tight knit community ,
Counselor (Former Employee) - Sykesville, MD - April 16, 2022
No diversity, small town, little professional development , administration was supportive of work/life balance , tight knit community, doesn’t seem to hire outside of community , most enjoyable part of job was work hours. The most difficult part of job was working with non supportive parent community , I learned a lot of activities and programs that help students transition to one level to the next, not too many employees come from other counties or states

Easy work with steady hours
Custodian (Current Employee) - Eldersburg, MD - October 18, 2021
Easy work with steady hours. You’re told what to do and as long as you do you’re part in your section you will have no problem. Management does not help employees with their work

Excellent place to work
Teacher (Current Employee) - Carroll County Middle School - August 28, 2021
Very supportive administration. I had the support I needed to be successful. The only area for improvement is advancement. There are very few entry level management positions. This requires you to leave if you want to advance.

Carroll County = Best County
Instructional Assistant (One-on-One) (Current Employee) - Maryland - August 24, 2021
Carroll county public schools are full of truly dedicated teachers and staff. I have never worked in an environment as professional and rewarding as I have at CCPS.
Pros
Watching students grow
Cons
Board of directors are typical politicians

If the going to teach - go to a different County
High School Science Teacher (Current Employee) - Sykesville, MD - August 10, 2021
Any other county will pay you better in the beginning and over the long haul. CCPS continually makes it clear they do not care about their teachers and staff. The county has been taking a bit each year with more teachers leaving and it's becoming less tolerant of diversity.

best colleagues to work with
Teacher (Current Employee) - Westminster, MD - August 4, 2021
The best part about this job is working with the students, but the faculty is also amazing! Many want to help, learn and grow together. Overall it is a great place to work with good benefits.

Fantastic school system that cares
Teacher (Former Employee) - Westminster, MD - July 29, 2021
This school system really cares about about its employees. Working for CCPS was some of the best times I ever had. I made some great friends over the years!

This school cares about all of the students and make sure they are taken care of away from school.
Teacher (Current Employee) - Cana VA 24317 - June 13, 2021
This is the best school to teach at and everyone works together. Many times students take food home for the weekends or days not scheduled. There are curriculum choices in place that anyone can use for all subjects. Fundraising is minimal.
Pros
I can freely do my job as a professional without someone challenging my every move.
Cons
There are none. It is awesome to work there.

Awful Government school. Ridiculously over bloated admin and awful teachers
Instructional Assistant Carroll Springs School (Current Employee) - Westminster, MD 21157 - June 6, 2021
Worst school system. Awful to work for. No support, just criticism. Admin pay themselves Very well and waste our taxpayer money. Committee assignments can launder money very nicely without providing g the community with anything! More admin raises yay! They all Lie and cheat you. Guess what? The benefits are okay. I’m leaving for Florida and good schools

Rewarding
Student Support Assistant (Current Employee) - Robert Moton Elementary - March 21, 2021
I am a SSA in a specialized program for CCPS. I have worked there for the last 6 years, and I love what I do. I love working with my students and knowing that I am making a difference. However, in the last two years I am doing the job of a contracted employee without the contract or any benefits. It is a very stressful job, and I do more than what I am asked in my job description and receive no compensation.
Pros
Rewarding
Cons
Little support, no benefits, pay

Easy internship learning experience
Transportation Intern (Former Employee) - Westminster, MD - February 5, 2021
Interned for the Transportation Department for two summers, 2018 and 2019. 8AM-4PM with a hour for lunch. Amazing supervisor and coworkers willing to help and teach on-the-job. Slightly boring intern busywork for some of the day, but also got to work on new projects and incoming technology during downtime and assist the supervisors. Occasional stressful phone calls from parents. Intern salary felt low, but was expected for the work.
Pros
Great coworkers, set lunch, meaningful work
Cons
Busywork, dated software

Central Office filled with liars
Teacher (Former Employee) - Hillsville, VA - December 7, 2020
The system is a total cluster flop from the superintendent on down. There needs to be a thorough AUDIT of the entire school system. The best thing about this job was quitting time.
Pros
Quitting time
Cons
GROSS mismanagement. There NEEDS to be an audit and unnecessary positions eliminated.

Exhausting but I loved working with the kids
English Teacher (Former Employee) - Carrollton, GA - November 13, 2020
I enjoyed working with all the kids at the high school but the amount of stress was insane . I had a good mentor teacher who tried their best . The admin for the most part was supportive minus my individual administrator. They were condescending and not helpful in their feedback . I think they took more pleasure from humiliating teachers and students than being a helpful supportive leader . Overall i feel like you’d need to have a tie to the community to work in Carroll County .
Pros
Kids and seeing them progress
Cons
Behavioral issues, Some admin issues, and pay

Good workplace regarding the staff.
Substitute Teacher (Former Employee) - Mostly secondary schools - October 10, 2020
Nice place to work; the staff is supportive; the job is flexible. You can set your own hours because you don't have to be in one place to be able to do the job well.
