It was the last week before finals, I had a meeting with Cates control solutions that Monday. That Friday I received the job, and could not have been more excited. By the end of the first week I already had a large handful of responsibilities that were to be handled each day. I continue to learn vast amounts of useful knowledge. This internship will give me a huge head start above my fellow peers. The people at Cates genuinely care about my learning, and truly want me to succeed. they constantly relay useful information to me and allow me to sit in during sales calls and business meetings. What an experience!

Typical work day. Slow steady paced. I was fortunate enough to be involved with first leadership class ever held at the Webster location. I was the A/P clerk and the job itself was pretty straight forward. My coworkers made it an enjoyable experience to go to work each day. Lots of different characters in one room. The hardest part of the job was having to deal with the slow-downs. The most enjoyable part of the job were my vendors. coworkers, company luncheons, and homemade chocolate chip cookies. Remote management was difficult sometimes but we had an amazing Operations Manager and Sales Manager. I learned a lot from both.

Cates is a great company to work for as they value their employees and show them in various ways by offering bonuses, 401K, good benefits and by always giving a kind word of appreciation when earned. This year Cates management selected me to participate in a Leadership Insititue class. This class proved to be so valuable in my work life and home life. It is basically how to handle issues and situations at work in a professional and non-confrontational way. This was at Cates expense and again, this showed how much they valued me as an employee. My typical day at Cates is accepting calls from customer regarding repair and drive/control issues and requirements. I am responsible for arranging service calls, repairs, request for quotations, proposals, etc. I enjoy working with the Cates employees and our customers.

My typical work day consisted of A/P, A/R, and variance reports. I processed check runs for multiple locations. I was able to attend an intensive management leadership course and that is where I learned the most at Cates. My co-workers are amazing. Upper management was remote and often oblivious to the actions of lower management which created a lot of strife within the team. The hardest part of the job is fighting boredem and dealing with a micro-managing person whose actions were complained about by many but nothing was done to address the issue based on family ties. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with my immediate co-workers, vendors, and customers.
