It’s cool to get the experience but don’t plan on moving up very fast. The biggest issue is the no benefits only because the pay for you when you start out is ok it’s not the best I started out at 12hr which is nice but not the best

I would start my day by either meeting with a truckload of block, then go and lie out the crews. Tell them what needed to be done first or what was a priority. Then I would either meet with inspectors to find out if we passed and were able to go and pour concrete for our footings. Then I would go down and submit blue prints to pull permits to start an up coming job. Then I would start ordering material for existing jobs or jobs that were do to start. I would then call in for inspections for the following day. By now I would go and line out a backhoe for the layout crews. I might go meet with a superintendent or to for up coming work, go check all the jobs and make sure everything was done and rebar was placed for the inspectors. At this part of the day I would start measuring walls or square footage of stone and take them to the office so we could send out bills. I learned how to delegate and get the most out of my men and the most productivity by never downing the guys . I learned how to prioritize my day so I could get the most out my day for instance maybe changing a meeting so I wouldn't have to drive across town twice or take care of something today that I might of had planned for tomorrow.Things of that nature. I was part of management,I thought one thing that wouldv'e been better was if the owners would give an attah boy to the men once and a while and come out to talk to the guys it would v'e made the men feel better about the company. My co-workers were great I had about 150 men working with me and I knew every ones name. These guys would stay late if I needed to have something done instead of doing it the next day really good guys. Trying to be in two places at one time, but I really enjoyed the pressure for me it wasn't hard. Having to work so hard 60 -70 hours a week and know at the end of that week I made that company money and I accomplished it or helped some guy out that was having trouble with his rent or just needed to talk I would help anyway I could. That was rewarding.

This construction business was a nice place to work. Treated employees with respect, promoted from within, rewarded work well done. I learned a lot from the positions held in this company.
