Bad company
Associate (Former Employee) –  Midland, MIAugust 24, 2019
Terrible company. Owners take the money and yet call it a non profit. Poor wages. Employees do drugs and steal from the consumers. Poor management. Just portly ran. I feel sorry for the people they take care of. Consumers shop at garage sales for clothes while owner takes trip to Africa. Shameful!!

Very rewarding job if you like helping people.
DSP (Direct Support Professional) (Current Employee) –  MichiganDecember 11, 2018
The management is fair and consistent. Fun place to work. They take care of their employees. Lots of opportunities for promotion. They invest in training and development which is more than most companies do.

Long hours and no relief
Home supervisor (Current Employee) –  MichiganJuly 21, 2018
I was management at one of the homes. If a staff left you where stuck working whatever shifts you could not get covered. All the homes are short staffed so you can’t ohll people from other homes. It’s mentally and physically draining working as many hours as they expect you to work.
Pros
The individuals
Cons
Everything

Sink or swim! When promoted there either was no support or you were micro managed
Management (Former Employee) –  MichiganJuly 17, 2018
Job can be fun if you have the personality that things are going to be done right! Some staff & upper management do not care. It seems it was more about making money than providing quality care!
Pros
Enjoyed the residents & some of the staff!
Cons
No breaks, if your relief doesn’t show up, You are staying!

Many positive changes have taken place in this ever changin industry!
Program Management (Current Employee) –  MichiganJanuary 25, 2018
Central State is a place where you can start as a Substitute, Part-time or Fulltime Direct Support Professional and if you learn your job and do what you know is right, you can move up into any position you have shown that you qualify for. Central State promotes from within whenever possible.
The current Director is very responsive. So, if you have a problem with management being unfair or you just disagree and can't work it out, all you have to do is take it up, following the chain of command, and you will get answers and hopefully resolution that everyone can agree on.
Group homes can be as fun, respectful and rewarding to work in as you make them! If you're doing the right thing and treating people the way you would want your Grandmother treated, you'll really enjoy this work.
If you have the courage of your convictions and report if bad things happen, you will be happy working for Central State and will be able to sleep at night.
Pros
Advocating for people who need your support and being part of something bigger than yourself!

Mistake Competitive and Quick Paced for "Stress"
DSP (Direct Support Professional) (Current Employee) –  Saginaw, MIJanuary 11, 2018
Many other reviews here mistake the competitiveness and quick pace of this company for stress, those people just must not be cut out for that type of role. CSCS is a constantly changing work environment (what healthcare business isn't these days?) and strives to be the best when it comes to patient care. There are unlimited opportunities to learn on the job. I think the hardest part of the job is that it is in the healthcare field, and that isn't easy, nor will it ever be. This isn't a hand you money because you showed up job, It's a job. You have to work hard for it, sometimes harder than you might like, but it's work. It's always nice when residents are happy with their care and appreciate all the things you do for them.
Pros
Low Insurance premiums, Flexible Schedule
Cons
Hard work (see above), long hours

I was overworked and taken advantage of. I suffered a mini mental breakdown because they would not approve a requested leave.
Home Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Marlette, MISeptember 11, 2015
The only thing good about this corporation is the relationships that are developed with the individuals served. The corporation itself is out to milk money from the individuals while at the same time saying that their goal is to provide quality care. The corporation cannot provide quality care with a minimum number of overworked staff. County provided money for staffing purposes does not all go to staff. Some of it is used for out of county administration.
Pros
working closely and developing relationships with individuals served
Cons
no breaks, overworked with 60+/hr work weeks, expensive insurance, staff are not appreciated no matter what corporation says
