Dysfunctional
Crew Member (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILJuly 9, 2019
Fast paced and educational. Job can be stressful when the unprofessional do not do their jobs and everyone else is left holding the bag, but that happens everywhere now a days it seems. Most of the time the direct management seem defeated or have simply given up because of the nepotism of the hierarchy. Overall it can be a great place to work. They try hard to show appreciation to employees but the decision makers seem to be unqualified most of the time.

Horrible management
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILJuly 8, 2019
CGH was a fantastic place to work until management all changed in 2018. You worked under the "bully" system, and you were indeed informed if you did not like it, "find a job elsewhere". Seasoned nurses left employment, and management did nothing to retain them, as this was encouraged to get rid of the " highest paid nurses". Doctor's are no longer respected, and nurses are working shirt handed all the time.
Pros
Good pay for small town
Cons
Dangerous environment!!!!!

Tyrannical Administration
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILJune 11, 2019
CGH used to be a great place to work. Recent senior administration has changed that. Open door policy is useless. Any questions or concerns are met with the response "If you don't like it, go work somewhere else". Concerns about staffing are ignored. Poor patient care is ignored when reported. Hospitalists are worked like dogs, running from patient to patient. I encourage families to keep a close eye on the care your loved ones receive and ask a lot of questions.
Pros
Co-workers are mostly great
Cons
Administration!

Stay Away.
Physician (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILJune 1, 2019
Switch and Bait contracts.
Passive agressive managements.
Favoritism openly displayed by administrations to local workers compared to "not from the area" physicians.
Work expectations are ridiculous and this is different amongst each provider............
"Speaking up" is handled by outburst of retaliatory tactics FROM management and their proxies, some of which are your co-workers and surbordinates.......any reaction henceforth will be labeled as agression(Modus Operandi).

Ask yourself, why more people quit this hospital than any other.

Don’t work in Dietary! Here’s your warning.
Dietary Aide (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILMay 15, 2019
Dietary at CGH may seem like it’s very well managed and nice etc but....... NOPE! Management is rude and constantly is all over you telling you to do your job this way then so many minutes later they tell you it has to be done this way! The assistant manager is a pain in the a**!!! She will constantly step all over your heels just watching to see what you are doing. If there wasn’t anything for me to do on my floor as an ambassador she would start getting mad at me. She is constantly a crank! She needs to retire! The main boss no one likes even people who work at the hospital in different departments!!! So turn around while you can before getting yourself into misery!!!!!!
Pros
Discount, 15 & 30 minute break

Physician (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILApril 18, 2019
Rural hospital, where every local physician is in training to be the CEO,treat outside providers with disdain just to compensate for inadequacies both clinically and otherwise.
Very medieval style of administration......Unhappy atmosphere.
Sweat shop workload......
Blackmail is rampant,to re-negotiate your salary downwards or violate your 13th amendment.

Not unusal to be addressed in a condescending and patronizing manner by support staff and sometimes even by administration.
Bean counter administration.
Cycling providers an an unusally high rate as quality of care is not emphasized but quantity.
No quality of life or family time expected to be at work all day....willy nilly enforced.
Bias and discrimination is the norm.
Administration discusses staff with other favored staff , a culture that breeds contempt among support staff.

Unusual work environment, discrimination and bias unusually high.
A culture of you against us promoted even by administration if you are not a local of sterling or "from the area" politically correct term used administration.
Patient care reduced to quantity with zero emphasis on quality.....Administration has a bean counter approach to patient care.
Everybody hired before you is administration in some sort of way.....and will expect you to "work" for them.
You will never have a voice.....If you are a Mute....you will do just fine.

Great place to work!
Support Staff (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILApril 5, 2019
CGH is a great place to work. The benefits are really good as well as discounts at local business. CGH truly does care for their employees and makes sure they are well taken care of (employee appreciation week every year as well as quarterly gifts/food days!). There is always someone to talk to if an issue arises. Great culture.

Beware!!! Beware!!! Beware!!!
Provider (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILMarch 15, 2019
A lot of unmentionable happens here.....
You will be discriminated everyday.........if you are not from the area.
90% of the physicians not from the area leave within a year as they are harassed/discriminated by management or fellow staff.
Their idea of hardworking is doing other peoples quota of work in addition to yours....
Young administrators(who are clinicians) harassing, belittling older nearly retired physicians to do more work!!
Everybody wants to be management.....that way they do not get their hands dirty seeing patient.
If you are not from the area stay away.....

It’s all who you know
Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILMarch 15, 2019
Management is less than desirable, unless your buddy up with them. No job is safe, no matter how many years you devote to them. Rules may apply for some, but not for others. Favoritism can definitely be seen. Management definitely doesn’t protect their employees. I loved my direct co-workers, the doctor I worked for, and the patients. The workload was busy and challenging, and that was a plus.
Pros
Nice being off holiday and weekends, discount in cafeteria and gift shop.
Cons

Hostile Administrators
Provider (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILFebruary 28, 2019
Some administrators have no business being administrators, very hostile to recruited providers, threats are on a daily or hourly basis.
Power drunk nurses supervise physicians sometimes clinically!!
Nurses report to administrators and they willy nilly undermine you on a regular basis.
You will be discriminated,"some" of the people are prejudiced......even in administration.
There is a tolerated culture of discrimination.

PRIMARY CARE NURSE (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILOctober 11, 2018
Administration seems to have a difficult time maintaining leadership and organizational structure. Every couple of months Directors, managers, VP's are being eliminated, moved or fired. The lack of a strong transitional leadership and organizational structure has allowed for many poor decisions to be made and shortly thereafter, changed, frequently, this has created an organizational culture of confusion, low moral, and an overall opinion of not caring. It's very sad indeed.

The Physicians and nursing staff care about the patients
