Not a good place to work.
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILSeptember 18, 2019
Feels like a hostage situation working here.
The 3 administrators are utterly clueless.
They get rid of good quality staff at the slightest whim(only the mediocre ones end up staying......they recruit/incite staff against each other to dig up personal life/dirt to incriminate fellow staff.
They treat nurses bad.
Physicians are even treated worse, and literally worked like dogs, till the point that "patient safety is compromised".
To divert attention from their inept managment ....they pitch the nurses against the doctors and pretend to be the nice guys.

Let the truth be said......CGH is long due for an overhaul.
Save CGH now.

Great Job
RN Staff Nurse (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILSeptember 12, 2019
CGH truly is a good play to work. They have competitive wages and an excellent benefits package. You do get pay based on experience rather than how well you do, but everything else this company does for you make it worth it.
If you experience any issues, management and Human Resources is understandable and addresses everything brought to their attention.
Most departments have flexible schussing

Gloomy workplace.
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILSeptember 4, 2019
Group 1-People who know they will work here forever.
Group 2-People who come to work here in good faith.
The first group takes advantage and abuse the second group, continuously, from having them do their own portion of the work.
Administration does not play fair. They are actually involved in the theatrics.
NP/RN/MD treated condescendingly without any dignity accorded.
Administrations only joker is recruiting another "body".......most times going from good to bad just to save face.
No diverse administrative strategy from the present cohort.....repeating the same thing and expecting a different result.

Toxic Place of work.
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILSeptember 1, 2019
Providers have left/quit 2 months after been hired.
There is no due process anywhere in this hospital.
The management is non-existent to prevent chaos and enforce rules as they have outsourced administrative roles to various proxies who run the place amok, its not unusual to be bossed around by subordinates........who have close relationship to the administration.
Save yourself and career as RN/NP/MD.
Look for a stable environment.

CGH administration needs a total overhaul. If 30 providers leave in 24 months.

Healthcare is a business of bilateral trust.Patients trust their providers.Providers also need an administration that can be trusted.

Current Employee

I have had different managers from working in different departments. All have been easy to work with. Coworkers are always willing to help. Upper management has always been welcoming to communication as well. There is a Disciplinary process that is followed with all workers that everyone knows, no favoritism. Very accommodating to personal life and work life balance. Great place to work!

High Stress level
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILAugust 21, 2019
We can take your job is the only reprimand.
Stress level is too much
Workload and expectations are at an abusive level.
Micro-management everywhere
Management is do as i say....not do as i do.
Not unusual to reprimand/write up/fire others for what they do everyday.(very common)
Me and most colleagues always waiting for openings elsewhere.

Don’t do it!
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILAugust 14, 2019
I used to really enjoy working at CGH. We had a warm, family environment with our co-workers and management that lead to great teamwork and patient care. There was a big change in administration and management recently and that positive vibe is 100% gone. I went from feeling valued and cared about as an employee to being just a number on their schedule. Staff was told on multiple occasions “if you don’t like it, leave”.... so they are. Almost all of the great “seasoned” nurses I worked with are gone leaving hardly any competent staff left. Babies are training babies and I was seeing mistake after mistake being made before I left. Safe patient to nurse ratio is a thing of the past. Thinking about talking to the manager? She won’t even know your name and it will be like talking to a wall. Toxic environment and you’re constantly being put in unsafe situations and management will not have your back.

Avoid Like The Plague
Registered Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILAugust 7, 2019
Acute Care Services Manager is cold, heartless, absent, self absorbed, and speaks without thinking. If you can handle uncertainty, lack of communication, and constantly being understaffed and overworked, this is the place for you. This manager has been in this position just over a year and continues to run off staff. Has three assistants, so spends most time hiding.

Horrible management
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILJuly 8, 2019
CGH was a fantastic place to work until management all changed in 2018. You worked under the "bully" system, and you were indeed informed if you did not like it, "find a job elsewhere". Seasoned nurses left employment, and management did nothing to retain them, as this was encouraged to get rid of the " highest paid nurses". Doctor's are no longer respected, and nurses are working shirt handed all the time.
Pros
Good pay for small town
Cons
Dangerous environment!!!!!

Tyrannical Administration
RN Staff Nurse (Former Employee) –  Sterling, ILJune 11, 2019
CGH used to be a great place to work. Recent senior administration has changed that. Open door policy is useless. Any questions or concerns are met with the response "If you don't like it, go work somewhere else". Concerns about staffing are ignored. Poor patient care is ignored when reported. Hospitalists are worked like dogs, running from patient to patient. I encourage families to keep a close eye on the care your loved ones receive and ask a lot of questions.
Pros
Co-workers are mostly great
Cons
Administration!

work friendly environment, continuing with education encouraged,
RN (Current Employee) –  Sterling, ILMay 14, 2013
loved working with the staff and getting to know each one of my patients. Each day was a learning experience. The hardest part of the job was losing a patient, but also most rewarding was to be able to help that patient at the end of their life and the families get through it.
