The work began each day with checking the attendance report for students with high days missed from school. It was my responsibility to follow up with calls to parents, and visit teachers.
After interviewing the parents and teachers we scheduled a meeting with the parents and student.
We worked with a plan called the (TEP) Truancy Elimination Plan, on this form we would discuss with the Parent and Student ways to improve attendance and ways to improve grades, and social issues in the school.
Those who would not comply to improvements were scheduled for Court Dates with the District Court. After 10 days of absences without parent notes, or doctor notes were subject to Court in the District. I also did extensive Home Visits to homes where students were reported living but never report to school.
I work with a list student that the Board of Education wanted to identify for dropping from the rolls, it saved the District thousands of dollars each year, and made it possible for after school programs, and programs to help failing students keep from failing and moving on to the next grade.
