Excellent place to get a wealth of experience in Behavioral Health.
Community Liaison (Business Development) (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILJuly 15, 2019
Very good hospital for those with only a few years experience because they will gain extensive knowledge and understanding of behavioral health industry overall. However a seasoned professional would be a bit frustrated with the management and limited resources.

Fellow employees were great to work with, no concerns regarding fellow employees
Mental Health Counselor (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILJune 25, 2019
This hospital has an adult building and a children's Pavillion. The adult building was very dirty, no cna's to assist the patients with cleaning themselves. Also, counselors and nurses were overworked, and treated poorly by management. The adult building would frequently run out of face and body towels for patients to wash themselves, as well as scrubs for the patients to wear. Toothpaste and tooth brushes and footies patients would walk around barefoot with nothing on there feet. This was the case in both buildings, but the childrens pavillion was newer, so it was a tad bit cleaner.

It was alright
Worker (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILMarch 20, 2019
It was alright. Gave you experience in the field.
Employees are pretty disposable there.
You would be floated to various units frequently. It didn't matter where your experience or best fit was.

Horrible place to work.
Maintenance Engineer (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILFebruary 22, 2019
Nobody likes their job at this place. It has tarnished my view on the mental health care system and health care in general. It's a racket. Wether you're looking to be a patient or looking for a job, look elsewhere.

RN Charge NURSE (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILJanuary 1, 2019
a typical day at the job is busy with a lot of patients to attend to with few nurses to give adequate care, the patient to nurses ratio is very high with little from the management.

good staff bad management
Registered Nurse (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILDecember 13, 2018
overall nice place to work , nice staffs and co workers but management is so bad that it feels like management is against the staffs. The management don't care about the staffs and you easily get fired for nothing. Management needs to be changed asap.
Pros
good staffs

bad management

Stressful but Strong Team Approach
Therapist (Current Employee) –  Chicago, ILDecember 1, 2018
Worked in Pavilion (children/adolescents). Environment is stressful; however, all psychiatric settings are. Really strong team effort that helps alleviate stress. Unit staff and middle management are great, higher ups need better supervisor skills. Administration willing to receive feedback but takes consistent advocating to actually make changes.

Enjoyed working with the kids and building relationships ..Great leadership with potential to grow..The culture, benefits, the management and perks are great...All though working in the mental health field can be stressful and has potential for burnout, helping people overcome harmful thoughts and feelings can be rewarding.

not a good place for me
GAU CD unit Adult Unit Staff Nurse, AM shift (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILSeptember 28, 2018
did not feel safe working there but the compensation was alright.
I felt that I did not fit in there, felt hostility in my work environment. I felt I could not approach management with my concerns. I think there were too many "bad" layers between administration and line staff;felt that administration did not want to know my problems, they just wanted the hospital to make money.
Pros
close to my home
Cons
hostile work environment

Lack of solid senior leadership
Director of Business Development (Former Employee) –  Chicago, ILJune 27, 2018
CLH provides a needed service to the Chicago community. However, management does not lead the organization. Management does not value or appreciate the skill set that their employees bring. Management does not support the local staff but instead allows corporate to dictate what happens on a local level. Very "knee jerk" in how they react to situations and no clear senior leadership.
Pros
Exposure to all levels of BH needs
Cons
Senior leadership
