Depending on the job. Salaries staff members have annual reviews and raises. Technician staff that are in the ABA division have a structured tier system that starts as Trainee then moves up to Tech 1-4. These tiers are available at standard intervals along with skill and knowledge checks. They come with pay increases and additional job duties to match. An employee could expect three tier increases and several dollars more per hour in the first two years of entering our team.

Another answer those with experience working as an RBT/ABA Tech is how we handle low-census staffing, i.e. if patients are absent. We ask for volunteers when we have too many absences to reduce payroll for the day. While we have a procedure to choose staff to take a reduced schedule, we seem to always have a volunteer or two wanting to take an impromptu day off. In short, we don’t force you to go home when your patient doesn’t come for their scheduled session.

Our vacation policy increases with years of employment. New hires receive three weeks' vacation, increasing to four weeks at your second work anniversary and five weeks at five years. During the pandemic and continuing through 2022 we continue to add an additional 5 days reserved for sick pay, made available after completing your training.

Be open about what you didn't like about your last job. We would love the opportunity to discuss if that issue would exist with us or not before you discover it does! We like honest questions and find it very valuable to address from the start. Many new hires find they forgot to mention pre-planned trips or plans a few months down the line. It helps to know any required time off to get it on the calendar early. If you are applying for an ABA position as a Behavior Tech, we would highly encourage you to do a bit of reading into what RBT-level staff do with their patients!

Think about why you might want to work with this population of kids. It's a super rewarding, but hard job. Think about the ways you have problem solved and worked through hard situations in the past. Be ready to talk about what makes you excited!
