Horrible Place to Work
Administrator (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCSeptember 11, 2018
This agency is a contradiction to its own mission. If you don't agree with the often unethical things that transpire you are doomed. Beware of management as they are cut throat. I would not recommend this agency to anyone who is a self starter and independent thinker. This place is awful !

Horrible place to work
social worker (Current Employee) –  Washington, DC 20003September 11, 2017
The worst culture in the world to work. All about who you know not what you know. If you are not a "favorite" despite being a productive worker, manager, supervisor, you are subject to be dismissed, degraded, and overlooked.

Must be a committed Social Worker
Social Worker (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCJuly 11, 2017
There is no such thing as work life balance. Adaptability is essential. Great benefits and salary! This Agency is not for the faint of heart.
Management is very supportive. However, at times management can be removed from the emotional wear and tear that the work may have on the Social Worker. Self care is key.
Pros
Benefits, supportive teammates and managment
Cons
Prone to working long hours, countless competing agendas, and it's a thankless job

CFSA Review
Customer Service Representative (Current Employee) –  Washington, DCFebruary 27, 2017
CFSA has a noble mission in providing safety to neglected and abused children in the DC area but its employees are not valued or heard. At times, it creates a hostile work environment for employees and does not promote work life balance especially for its social workers. They are overworked and are constantly be demanded to do more.
Pros
Opportunity to be of service in DC government
Cons
Leadership does not value its employees

Toxic environment, horrible management
Social Worker (Current Employee) –  CFSASeptember 16, 2015
CFSA does good work - ensuring the safety of children and helping families help themselves. The work itself is rewarding and front line staff are almost all great. It's a large organization and it's wonderful to interact with other disciplines - nurses and lawyers, for example. The problem is upper management - they simply do not care in the slightest about their staff. They only care about benchmarks. They don't care how staff accomplish things, as long as the job gets done. They threaten staff and publically embarrass people. They apparently think this is good management style. A large number of people have left recently - with a pay cut - to get away from this. The problem isn't the clients or the work. It's the way the agency is run.

Personally rewarding work!
Social Services Assistant (Former Employee) –  Washington, DCJanuary 23, 2013
I really loved the work I did, helping families and children maintain a healthy safe, and stable home environment. The work was personally rewarding for me. My co-workers were very supportive and instrumental in helping me with my academic and career pursuits by providing me with training, resources, and encouragement. Past supervisors were very supportive as well, and challenged me to excel in my performance. What i did not like about the Agency was that Management (above the supervisory level) did not have respect for support staff and created an environment that was not unified, in that favoritism was given to the Social Workers, which seemed to divide support staff from the social work staff, instead of encouraging "team work". Other reasons included were that the Agency did not encourage educational growth for non-social work staff, there were no incentives for educational pursuits, and no growth opportunities for support staff.
Pros
flexability, decent salaries, supportive co-workers
Cons
no academic or growth incentives
