Cut throat, Unprofessional Management, CEO disrespectful
Direct Care Worker (Former Employee) – NY – October 9, 2018
Working here was the worst. The "management" team is extremely unprofessional and does not care about actual residents or staff. Everyone is out for themselves. The CEO was overheard mocking a staff members weight...Does not get lower than this place. Stay away
Coordinator (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – August 30, 2018
This is a place to grow. To either begin your career or find your second or third career. There are tremendous learning opportunties for employees who are wanting to dig in, work hard, learn, push themselves forward, and grow. The benefits are terrific and the compensation makes CHJC a terrific upstate New York employer.
Training opportunties, promotional opportunities, benefits
Management will brush things under the rug and undermine the seriousness of situations.
Foster Care Case Planner (Former Employee) – Canton, NY – August 4, 2018
They don't like to take responsibility for mistakes or deal with issues or concerns that are brought to them if it will make them look bad as an agency. They lie about things that go on and keep people in management even though many complaints have been made about the person. They do not support staff and you will work many hours. If you are willing to dedicate most of your life to your job, then you might actually like it there.
Direct Support Professional (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – March 26, 2018
Would've been there for years if administration and director's knew what they were doing! Policies and procedures change daily, weekly.... different for different employees. Have no support past the supervisors. Can never get an exact answer. No job security. Very clicky place to work and if you do your job and you're a good staff... You're not recognized or rewarded. Executive director, Director and HR all lie and and don't care about direct care staff. Very shady, sneaky and corrupt place!!
Fun job, kids, direct care staff
Admin, director, can lose your job at anytime, without reason

The Children's Home of Jefferson County is a great place to work. It does amazing things for the community and continues to do more all the time. This was the right move for me, but it isn't for everyone. Your expected to do your part within the agency whether it be working with the kids or working in an office somewhere. If you aren't doing your part then there are consequences for that. Working with the kids can be tough and you have to be prepared for it. It is stressful and can be demanding, but that is the nature of the business. It is just as rewarding for the right people. As with any job, you get what you give and you are treated how you treat others in and out of the agency. There is opportunity within the agency for those who want it and are qualified for it. The benefits are great here compared to what I have experienced elsewhere. The pay is competitive, but does vary depending on the position.
Admin (Current Employee) – Watertown – March 12, 2018
The Children's Home of Jefferson County has given me plenty of opportunities for advancement in roles or changing of departments to learn new roles that suit my professional goals and advancements. This organization has helped me pursue my passion for human service and nonprofits. It is an organization that stands by it's mission and each employee works hard to achieve that mission from each department. I started as a part time position and was able to quickly find a full-time opportunity. With any organization you work for there are going to be certain things you do not agree with or believe in but I have found that amount of things to be low for me.
Every position (Former Employee) – NY – March 7, 2018
The title says it all. Bullying like one is back in high school again, inappropriate language and remarks, targeting of certain employees, unequal treatment among same level employees, and no compensation for higher degrees of education. One is treated worse than a dog. The “benefits” and salary were awful as well.
Feelings of being youthful and back in high school
Being surrounded with others that believe they are still in high school
Residential (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – March 1, 2018
I LOVE my job, but just like any other job, nothing is perfect. Any company/organization is going to have strengths and areas that need improvement. The “perfect” job does not exist unless you live in a utopian society, which ours is not. With that said, CHJC is one of the BEST jobs I have ever had. The benefits are far better than most employers in the area. The pay could be higher, but no one gets into this field to make money; it’s about helping and teaching others and this organization certainly does that. If you are willing to work, have initiative and can take constructive criticism then you will succeed in this job. They expect nothing less than every employer out there; showing up on time, being professional, being respectful, being courteous, DOING your job and showing initiative. I have never had a problem while working here other than Direct Care Staff who are lazy; wanting to sit around all day, not interacting with the youth and getting attitude because they have been called on the carpet for not doing their job. Management has always been great. They not only listen to issues, but they try their best to rectify them. This is a great place to work and I would recommend it to anyone!
Direct Care Staff (Former Employee) – Watertown, NY – January 5, 2018
Management is awful and unprofessional. Management degrades employees and the residents they care for. All the agency cares about is money. The agency does not show compassion for their youth like the mission states. They use the youth's disabilities to make jokes.
Direct Care Staff (Former Employee) – Watertown, NY – December 7, 2017
The CSDS for the most part are not good at the job, management is the worse and it's a very click place to work. Don't work this company, it will be one of the worse jobs you ever have, and yes it's a job, not a career cause you must likely will not move up.
Residential (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – September 1, 2017
CHJC is a great place to work. They have several programs and offer a variety of different positions. There is room for advancement and is a rewarding place to work. The work environment is always changing and keeps things interesting.
great benefits, good pay, changing work environment- doesn't get boring
Manager (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – September 1, 2017
Progressive agency which provides a lot of opportunity for advancement. Hard work and determination pays off. Not a job where you can just collect a paycheck. Excellent benefits and paid time off. If you want a position where working hard is recognized, go to CHJC. The Agency is continuously evolving to meet the needs of the community.
Benefits, incentives, paid time off package, excellent mission
Worker (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – August 25, 2017
What some people don't realize is this is a professional job. Not everything is perfect and not everything runs smooth, every job has hiccups but anything can be resolved. If you do not perform your job to the level you agreed to, you will be watched closely. If you show up ON TIME and perform your job to the best of your ability with out complaining you will have no issues. If you complain behind managements back or bring up problems in an unprofessional manner, they will not take you seriously. I have never had a problem while working here, not even with upper management. This is a great place to work and I would recommend it to anyone!
Casework (Current Employee) – Watertown, NY – August 23, 2017
Increasingly a better place to work with more and more opportunity. The Children's Home of Jefferson County is a great launching place for professionals who are just starting out and those who are looking for a place to settle. Work is stressful as with almost all social work/child welfare positions but the supervisors are for the most part supportive.
Site Coordinator (Former Employee) – Watertown, NY – July 13, 2017
The most enjoyable part of the job was helping those in need and giving them the tools to live a healthy and productive lifestyle. As a Site Coordinator, I really enjoyed working with the students, teachers, and other educators to ensure a well-structured program.
Direct Care Staff (Former Employee) – Watertown, NY – July 5, 2017
I loved the job, the kids and the direct care staff I worked with, management is a totally different story. Upper management will lie not only to staff but to the kids too. You may get a phone call and lose your job without any warning or cause. You're basically told to "suck it up" take what we offer with a pay cut or find another job.
