Assistant Store Manager in Arlington, VA

Broken promises and lazy upper management
I loved my job and customers. Although I wasn’t paid nearly enough, it didn’t matter because I absolutely loved my job! It still upsets me I was let go. And all because the store manager got caught slippin!!!

They pay minimum wage, so no one wants to work there, and they are always short staffed. You are responsible for every single aspect of the store, at all times. I was a manager, and due to low wages in the door, I could not retain people long enough to properly train them, and Circle K believes that all the slack should be taken up by the manager. You are expected to work every and all shifts, at any given time, due to call offs or short staffing. I loved the job for the first year, because it always kept me moving and busy. I love working with customers. But after Covid hit us, and Circle K refused to pay competitive wages, we just couldn't keep employees, which made the job a miserable experience for everyone, especially the managers.

A typical shift included beginning at a million miles per hour because from the second my shift began, I was having to finish everything the shift before mine did not complete, which they weren't supposed to leave until all their responsibilities were completed. Regardless of the amount of times and different ways of expressing my concern about this, either management made no effort to get all of the employees on the same page, or the employees blatantly ignored the concerns and struggles of 3rd shift workers who without fail were required to do 50% of the 1st and 2nd shift duties on top of the 3rd shift duties, which were an exponentially heavier work load because it was assumed we would have fewer customers and more time to prepare the store for the next morning. From what I've gathered over the years, if clear communication and respect between employees is not present in the workplace, everything else will start to deteriorate from there. Communication and respect are essential in a work environment for me to thrive.

Wonderful employees and Management more like family than coworkers. Management very understanding and supportive of personal life. Fun place to work.

Expect to work hard for little pay. Im an assistant manager and new hires are making about a dollar less than me. Training is terrible and overall many employees are extremely lazy which makes your job harder

Interview Questions

Why do you think you would be a good fit here.

Shared on January 1, 2020

Why I wanted the job. When I can start. Didn't ask me for a second interview because they were so desperate to hire that I got the job after a 5 minute interview.

Shared on December 30, 2019

Can you work weekends? Do you have reliable transportation? How would you react if you had a customer come in angry with you/situation?
