Great Workplace!
employee (Current Employee) –  Burlington, VTMay 10, 2016
It's great to count yourself as a City Market employee. The benefits are top notch. Pay is really good considering the industry. There is a 401K match you'd be hard pressed to find anywhere else. Great medical too. The only downside is, as an hourly employee, you MUST be part of a union or pay them anyway -there is no opt out. It's hard to find value in the high cost, but it is what it is and you just have to suck it up.

The staff work well together and that management is supportive. It's fast paced but fun. There are alot of extra's they do for us including employee appreciation and quarterly bonuses.

If you can get your foot in the door you won't regret it so long as you want to work. It's only going to get bigger and better.
Pros
Benefits, pay, work environment, discount on groceries, and many more
Cons
forced union membership or a fee to not be a union member

Great Place to Work
Prepared Foods (Current Employee) –  Burlington, VTMay 5, 2016
I like working here. Everyone is really friendly and wants to be here. I am always greeted by smiles and greetings in the hallway and very rarely does someone look unhappy.

The benefits are awesome. Four weeks of paid time off per year, medical, dental, and vision at very low cost, 401K with employer match, and a discount on groceries. Not to mention all the other perks like free bus passes and free tickets to Echo Aquarium, Shelburne Museum, Champlain Valley Fair, and more. There are lots of great classes offered to employees, like "Finance 101" or "Resume Writing Workshop". City Market is definitely interested in improving its employees.

There is a great support system of managers, leadership team, and human resources. My voice always feels heard and appreciated. The GM greets me daily on a first-name basis.

I love it here!

Great Place to Work Downtown
Community Engagement (Current Employee) –  Burlington, VTMarch 29, 2016
City Market is a great place to work overall. There are good benefits for health insurance, retirement, paid time off, etc. There tends to be a lot of tenure in the more advanced positions, so sometimes moving up through the organization can be difficult. Coworkers and management are friendly and fun to work with, and it is easy to stay busy and engaged throughout the entire shift.
Pros
Friendly work environment, good benefits
Cons
Promotions can be difficult to come by

Community Engagement (Current Employee) –  Burlington, VTMarch 29, 2016
Since being employed at City Market, I have learned a tremendous amount both inside and outside of my job duties. One of my favorite parts about working at City Market is that you are challenged daily on new projects and opportunities. Managers are always asking and seeking information and ideas on how to make the Co-op a more synergistic work environment as well as how to improve customer service.

The management team is very innovative and forward thinking which makes it a very exciting work environment. They are always looking for ways to improve all areas of City Market, all while maintaining the Co-ops principles and mission.

It's also motivating and exciting to work alongside individuals who are like minded and driven. There are a lot of employees that work at City Market so it says something when you're respected and treated as value by employees, managers and the General Manager.

One of the more challenging aspects of working at City Market would be coordinating with all departments and maintaining a smooth line of communication. There is always so much happening inside City Market so juggling everything can take some hard work but is worth it.

Working with the people within my department is one of the reasons I look forward to coming to work everyday at City Market. Knowing that you bring value to your department is imperative for employee morale and I'm very proud to be a part of City Market and everything it stands for.
Pros
Benefits, employee atmosphere, challenge daily, education

Co-op Kinda Life
Employee (Current Employee) –  Burlington, VTMarch 29, 2016
If you have been to City Market, you know what kinda place it is on the surface. Friendly, eclectic, and driven by values that are more then your average store. Rest assured though, that runs deep.

If you are looking for a place to work to add a line item to your resume to move on to bigger and better things, are looking for a place where you an tick the hours off, or you don't think making a difference in the community matters, it might not be a good fit for you.

But if you want to be a part of something that does make a difference right here in Vermont, where your hours are gonna be jam packed with interesting stuff, and there is a good chance you'll be here for a good long while, it could be a great match.

Its a great place at City Market not because people conform to the culture, but because the culture conforms to the people. People want to work here, and that shows in the way people say hi, people watch out for each other, and in just the daily buzz around this place.

Its a good place to work, and if you love what you do, its a place you can shine.

Work hard, play hard!
Human Resources Generalist (Current Employee) –  Burlington, VTMarch 29, 2016
City Market is a fun, fast paced work environment. If you enjoy coming to work everyday and not knowing what your day is going to look like, you would love working here. Management practices are fair and equitable, benefits are probably the best in the state and definitely in the retail industry. Employees feel heard and valued.

It seems as though almost everyone is here for the same reason and that is City Market's mission and their impact on the local community and food system which makes it a very special place. It truly is an amazing opportunity to be a part of such a dedicated organization.

I am looking forward to opening our store in the South End of Burlington in the Summer of 2017!

City Market provides their employees with an almost unmatched set of benefits. With customer traffic in the store ever increasing, employees work hard and are rewarded for this. The co-op culture works well to benefit the community and to incorporate members in the business decisions that are made.
