Good benefits, friendly coworkers. No support from supervisors, no room for growth, does not hire within. Teleworking rules are not enforced, not everyone gets to work from home.

Inclusive, flexible, helpful

It is a very welcoming atmosphere and people are always willing to help or back you up as needed. Management is very helpful and they try to be flexible as much as they can.

Horrible dictator runs the Public Works Department.

Don’t work there. People are treated poorly and from day one your told to watch your back because people get fired all the time if you’re not the Directors favorite.

Poor work environment

Favoritism is high! If you’re not in the in crowd, you’re made to feel like an outcast. Terrible environment. Human Resources department shows very high turnover.

Police Officer

It's a law enforcement job. The PD overall is a good place to work but there needs to be changes in upper level supervision. The City is overall good to its employees. Auburn PD officers work hard as they are under staffed for the call load compared to the other agencies around the South Sound. Expect to work hard every day with little slow time.

There are too many to list, but not employer related.

Very political, arbitrary. insecure

Unpredictable, arbitrary leadership and policies. Toxic work environment. Many unwarranted firings/dismissals. Walking on eggshells and frequent changes in priorities and values. Poorly run finance department.

Flexible schedule, quality staff

Inconsistent support from certain departments

Bad management and a lazy work place

Typical work day is very slow to start. No one begins their actual work before first break which is two hours into the day. The breaks are supposed to be 15 mins and 30 mins for lunch but daily there would be extended breaks the 15s would be 45 mins and the 30 min lunch could easily stretch to an hour or more. Management does nothing about it because it could upset the workers. There is no structure to the individual development plans, management just reviews you after a period of time and expects you to have learned everything on a list they never shown you before. Things start out alright but after a while the work environment and the management begin to wear you down this is not somewhere I would recommend a friend or colleague to work. The only redeeming quality is the work week is a 9/80 so every other week you have a three day weekend.

I volunteered to clear out invading brush

A simple task of clearing out invading plant life from a park with the help of my fellow community. This was no actual job, just volunteering experience.

Enjoyed my time there

Liked working with customers and operating equipment. The current mayor is the best since being employed there. Too much political garbage and rules seem to be different depending on who you are.

Wages, benefits

Changing rules based on who you are

Just not much to say very mellow and laid back culture with poor management downwards.

Just not much to say very mellow and laid back culture with poor management downwards. Hard Work is not valued as it should proceeding to create a product not at its best in good time but at a good enough standard.

Incredible Place to Work

The City of Auburn is one of the best government organizations in the Puget Sound Region. The jurisdiction is large enough to where there are interesting projects, but small enough to where there isn't a bunch of bureaucracy. The current Mayor and her leadership team makes Auburn an exceptional place to work.

This is a fast-paced, busy department.

Officers who have entered this department from major cities have departed due to the workload and lack of staffing. The entire region is suffering from lack of qualified applicants, and many departments in the immediate area are recruiting amongst themselves.

LOTS of overtime available. Varied specialty assignments for officers.

The pay scale is below where it should be, and the mandatory overtime due to lack of staffing is driving even more officers away.

little opportunity

Not enough jobs for upward mobility. Positions only available when people retired. There needs to be more oversight with management which is not prevalent in public sector.

Secure job, Nice co-workers

The City of Auburn was a good place to work. My co-workers and boss were nice. At that time I was glad that they didn't allow overtime work. I learned a lot there. The benefits were great.

Water Tech

My time with the City was project-based, but enjoyed working with those in my department. I enjoyed my regular work routine to monitor water levels and animal patterns for the project. I was sad when the project ended.

Great Place to Work

Technology and people are start of the art. Even though this was a city hall of a small city the management and staff are fantastic. If I was not working temporary I may have stayed here forever.
