Police Officer
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - April 15, 2021
It's a law enforcement job. The PD overall is a good place to work but there needs to be changes in upper level supervision. The City is overall good to its employees. Auburn PD officers work hard as they are under staffed for the call load compared to the other agencies around the South Sound. Expect to work hard every day with little slow time.
Cons
There are too many to list, but not employer related.

Ec Dev mngr (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - June 30, 2020
Unpredictable, arbitrary leadership and policies.
Toxic work environment. Many unwarranted firings/dismissals. Walking on eggshells and frequent changes in priorities and values. Poorly run finance department.
Pros
Flexible schedule, quality staff
Cons
Inconsistent support from certain departments

Bad management and a lazy work place
Maintenance Worker Storms 1 (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - February 13, 2020
Typical work day is very slow to start. No one begins their actual work before first break which is two hours into the day. The breaks are supposed to be 15 mins and 30 mins for lunch but daily there would be extended breaks the 15s would be 45 mins and the 30 min lunch could easily stretch to an hour or more. Management does nothing about it because it could upset the workers.
There is no structure to the individual development plans, management just reviews you after a period of time and expects you to have learned everything on a list they never shown you before.
Things start out alright but after a while the work environment and the management begin to wear you down this is not somewhere I would recommend a friend or colleague to work.
The only redeeming quality is the work week is a 9/80 so every other week you have a three day weekend.

I volunteered to clear out invading brush
Volunteer (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - January 28, 2020
A simple task of clearing out invading plant life from a park with the help of my fellow community. This was no actual job, just volunteering experience.

Enjoyed my time there
MAINTENANCE WORKER II (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - September 19, 2019
Liked working with customers and operating equipment. The current mayor is the best since being employed there. Too much political garbage and rules seem to be different depending on who you are.
Pros
Wages, benefits
Cons
Changing rules based on who you are

Incredible Place to Work
Senior Planner (Current Employee) - Auburn, WA - August 2, 2019
The City of Auburn is one of the best government organizations in the Puget Sound Region. The jurisdiction is large enough to where there are interesting projects, but small enough to where there isn't a bunch of bureaucracy. The current Mayor and her leadership team makes Auburn an exceptional place to work.

This is a fast-paced, busy department.
Police Officer (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - July 7, 2019
Officers who have entered this department from major cities have departed due to the workload and lack of staffing. The entire region is suffering from lack of qualified applicants, and many departments in the immediate area are recruiting amongst themselves.
Pros
LOTS of overtime available. Varied specialty assignments for officers.
Cons
The pay scale is below where it should be, and the mandatory overtime due to lack of staffing is driving even more officers away.

little opportunity
Administrative/Analyst/Project Manager (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - July 2, 2019
Not enough jobs for upward mobility. Positions only available when people retired. There needs to be more oversight with management which is not prevalent in public sector.

Water Tech
Water Quality Field Technician (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - July 21, 2017
My time with the City was project-based, but enjoyed working with those in my department. I enjoyed my regular work routine to monitor water levels and animal patterns for the project. I was sad when the project ended.

Great Place to Work
Help Desk Technician (Former Employee) - Auburn, WA - February 21, 2017
Technology and people are start of the art. Even though this was a city hall of a small city the management and staff are fantastic. If I was not working temporary I may have stayed here forever.
