Great place to work
Building Official (Field Inspector) (Former Employee) –  Bozeman, MTMarch 26, 2018
Wages are too low for the amount of cost of living ..
The average inspector cant afford to live in the city limits of Bozeman. Bozeman is growing so fast and the city has forgotten about their employees .
Pros
Great place to work
Cons
Cant afford to live close to town ..

low pay, awful management, low quality superintendents, benefits are being eroded away
City employee (Current Employee) –  Bozeman, MTMarch 18, 2018
If you are not buddies with the management you will not get promoted.

management is hired for their willingness to take low pay, which results in people in potions that have no idea how to lead or run an operation.

HR will listen to worker grievances but take no action( covering themselves from lawsuits)
Pros
its a job while you look for a new one, and the benefits are good but getting worse every year
Cons
supervisours, management, pay, lack of HR to resolve issues

The benefits weren’t enough to compensate...
Clerk (Former Employee) –  Bozeman, MTJanuary 29, 2018
Yes, the benefits were pretty good, although they kept getting chipped away. The atmosphere was grim, not many happy campers, and the environment was more “each man for himself” than the supposed “Teamwork” which was part of the City’s motto. Upper management gets the big bucks while the rest just get by. I worked there over a decade until I made a break—which I should’ve done much earlier.
Pros
Benefits
Cons
Negative atmosphere, not very friendly, low pay, non-supportive management

Pay is low all over in Bozeman but the city does pay better than many employers. Management has been questionable but the city council is trying to fix this.

Stressful
Maintance Worker/ Operator (Former Employee) –  Bozeman, MTOctober 19, 2017
Management cared little for employee wellbeing and was 100% negative at all employee meetings. Safety was of little or no concern to superintendent. Daily work chores became super stressful in a very negative work enviroment. Constant verbal from foreman and supervisors to find another job if you didnt like what was to be done.
Pros
Diverse job activites
Cons
Negative managment attitude

Great benefits, poor work environment
Plant Operator (Former Employee) –  Bozeman, MTSeptember 1, 2017
The benefits are excellent, the work is pleasant, and the City overall is great to work for, but upper management lacks leadership abilities or appreciation for employees, and fosters a highly negative work environment. Not much room for advancement and union raises are less than inflation each year, so there isn't much incentive to fix all the logistical problems in the way the place is run. All the operators and maintenance people are fun to work with and intelligent, but management will steal a little piece of your soul.

steady job but lacking any real opportunity for advancement
Parking Enforcement Officer (Current Employee) –  Bozeman, MTMarch 19, 2015
overall not a bad place to work. wages are comparatively low, which results in an chronic inability to attract and maintain valuable employees. there is a clear divide between upper management and the labor that can at times cause friction in the work place.
Pros
steady job, good benefits packages available
Cons
no room for advancement. lack of support from management
