Sunset zoo program assistant (Current Employee) – Manhattan, Kansas – November 6, 2018
Awesome job because you get to work with animals and children. As a PA you do many different things. You get animal handling training and you shadow the many different programs the zoo offers until you feel comfortable to do them in your own. A few of the programs you help with are birthday parties, behind the scenes tours, summer camps, day-long adventure camps on the weekend. You also travel to nearby schools to put on programs where there is a theme. You bring live animals with you and what they call “biofacts” which are typically animal pelts, skulls, eggs, nests, feathers. Pretty much real examples of anything related to animals. You also help with special events that the zoo hosts.
Discounts in the gift shop, family and friends can get free entry to zoo, great experience if you like working with animals and children.
Low pay, no benefits, sometimes no hours, and split shifts.
This was a great place to work for. Being a basketball referee was a great opportunity. The pay was great and it was good work experience. I would definitely recommend this job to anyone who wants to be a referee.
