Fun and exciting, something new every day
Recreation Leader I (Current Employee) –  Miami Beach, FLJuly 21, 2018
As a recreation leader, you work with kids of all ages. During the school year, you help transport the kids from the school to the recreational facilities, help with homework, provide snack, then engage in activities such as arts and crafts, sports, and games. In the summer, you work an 8 hour day (with an hour lunch break), you have a few field trips, spend time outside in the playground, take your group swimming, etc. You have to be active and creative when working with kids while also being very cautious on the things you say and do, as you're working with kids and being a role model to them. Management depends on where you are located at, but overall, there is a strong sense of morality and professionalism all around. The workplace environment can be a pretty decent time, for the most part everyone is friendly. But things may get catty when you are working with mostly staff from 18-24 years old. The hardest part of the job is having to work with many people and trying to reach the same overall goal, while having different methods of reaching it. The most enjoyable part is being able to spend time creating memories for the children.
Pros
Hour-long lunch break, located on Miami Beach, great pay
Cons
Hot summer days, no days off in the summer

911 operator (Former Employee) –  Miami Beach, FLMarch 9, 2018
The hardest part of working in a 911 center is the hours you have to work and the amount of hours of work per week. I worked the midnight shift for aprox 17 years and worked over 60 hours per week. Staffing a 911 center is always very difficult.
The 911 center in Miami beach has gone thru a lot of changes, making it very difficult to have a clear path of what your duties entail.
The Job itself is very rewarding, helping people in the moments they needed most if a nice feeling. I loved my job and my co-workers but management is always on issue.
Pros
vacation time, overtime, health insurance, life insurance
Cons
management, hours, shift work

Office Associate V (Former Employee) –  Miami, FLJuly 22, 2015
Work in the City of Miami Beach was great. I loved eveything about it. I did what I had to do and everyone did the same. We had a lot of get together to build moral but eveyone knew that was all talk to have proof of the actions. The truth there is to know people that will get you moving up not to know the work that would get you fired.
Pros
great benefits

Productive and Awarding place to work...
Recreation Attendant (Former Employee) –  Miami Beach, FLFebruary 29, 2016
A typical day at the city of Miami Beach would consist of handling the concerns of Beach residence and residential parents who were adamant on having their children participate in the programs... With working in an environment such as this one, one learns how to react with the public and the demands as they see fit to each individuals needs. Co-workers were friendly and accepting, though the hardest moments would be the lack in certain supervisors when it came to decision making and responsibility. The most enjoyable part was participating with the children in their programs and seniors as well, seeing their faces light up when you do something grand for them.
Pros
Work environment, meals, activities, and participation
Cons
Uncertainty in upper management, and favorable discrimination.

Civil Engineer/Project Management (Former Employee) –  Miami Beach, FLJanuary 2, 2014
A typical day in the department would be customer service examining plans and dealing with certificates of completion and occupancy, and issuing building permits in the morning to noon shift. In the afternoon it would be in the field examining building sites.
I learned about computers, dealing with the public, the running of a typical building department and as per co workers, how to be a part of the team to achieve a common goal.
The hardest part of the job was to deal with irate customers with a straight face.
The most enjoyable part of the job was to get free admission to many clubs and to be able to eat at many restaurants free of cost in south beach.
Pros
Free admission and free food at many clubs and restaurants.
Cons
irate customers
